The vote is considerable embarrassment for the US as it reflects global opinion.

I think you mean it “does nothing” regardless of the substantive effect it actually has on the US, it actually means a lot in the context of international relations.

Congress voted in overwhelming favor of this move in the '90s.

Clinton, Bush and Obama all recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, but held off on making the embassy move. Trump, as Chief Executive finally carried out the legislation passed by Congress. Yet somehow, Trump is the bad guy in all of this, like he came up with the idea all by himself.

All of this hysteria over the location of an embassy building. Think about that. The location of an embassy building. The U.S. already considered Jerusalem to be Israel's capital, which was known to everyone for quite some time. Now everyone loses their sh*t when the embassy actually moves. The anti-Trump fervor has reached new highs of stupid.

Two sovereign nations, the U.S. and Israel agreed to the location of an embassy building. And the UN doesn't like it? Well boo-fu*king-hoo. What else is new? Trump has a LONG list of faults, but I for one am glad he and Nikki Haley don't bend over for the fu*king UN. Nations run by dictators that don't even allow all, or any of their citizens to vote, shaming the U.S? Please. fu*k off.

You dont know geography do you?

East and West Jerusalem is like East and West Berlin in the 80's.
Except for the fact that a country splits another from its larger self.

The Gaza strip has always been under Palestinian control.
Its not just about a capital, its about taking control of all religious monuments and artifacts.

I take it by your comment civics and geography arent really any concern of yours.

Exactly, everyone else held off on making the move. Seems like that was the smart move. Sad that you look at it as us bending over for the UN and not realizing what the smartest move is. @, care to explain 583735D Chess to me?

re op: the international community has almost unanimously condemned israel's (and by extension, our) actions in relation to the two states for years now

means nothing at this point - we have never cared for UN approval or really the UN in general when it has contradicted any of our actions

Again. Congress voted to make the move in the '90s. Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama all recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Trump finally followed through on the legislation Congress passed 20 fu*king years ago. And people want to blame him for violence that's plagued the region for decades, and will likely continue doing so for decades more? Please.

The United States has long, and PUBLICLY considered Jerusalem to be Israel's capital. The embassy is just now finally located there, based on an agreement between two sovereign nations. Or should the UN get to vote on embassy locations now?

If you have a problem with this, then blame Congress and each of three previous presidents for doing exactly what Trump has done since his campaign. He just actually followed through with it.

The President's role as Chief Executive is to execute and carry out legislation passed by Congress. Clinton, Bush and Obama chose not to do that. Neither of them condemned the move, nor did they encourage subsequent sessions of Congress to pass legislation regarding the embassy location. On the contrary, they publicly recognized Jerusalem as Isreal's capital.

You don't like the move? Fine. But placing the blame at Trump's feet is absurd. Clinton, Bush or Obama should have either made the move, or encouraged Congress to act.

The UN does not get to dictate where two sovereign nations locate their embassy buildings.

Shouldnít it be between the US and Israel only?

Israel recognizes Jerusalem as the capital, the US wants to show solidarity (for some reason) towards Israel so they want to put their embassy in jerusalem.

If Obama did this, everyone wouldíve supported him.

I honestly donít care either way. If thatís what Israel wants and thatís what the US wants, then who cares what anyone else thinks? Know what Iím sayin?

No, if Obama would have done this I think most of the same people would still think it was a bad move. The difference is if Obama did this, most trump supporters would say it was the worst move ever.

You might be right, you might be wrong.

But I wouldnít of care either way, and thatís the truth. Presidents have been talking about doing this for multiple decades. Just let it be. Who cares? Thatís just how I look at it
