Best Buy pulling CDs off shelves

Best Buy, formerly one of the biggest music merchandisers in the US, has plans to pull CDs from all of its stores by July 1, according to Billboard.

Target could be the next retailer to do so, as Billboard further reported that it was demanding that music suppliers sell the retailer inventory on a consignment basis and pay for unsold inventory. One music manufacturer is leaning toward saying no to this deal, according to Billboard.

This should come as no big surprise between streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify taking over and vinyl returning to popularity, there doesn't seem to be much of a place for CDs anymore. More than 800 million CDs were sold in the US in 2001, but that number fell to 89 million in 2017, according to Consequence of Sound.

Best Buy declined to comment on the Billboard report.

Even though CD sales have been dropping rapidly for years, people seem to be shocked and upset with Best Buy's decision to pull them from its shelves.

I'm actually cool with vinyl replacing CDs.....there's simply no need for a digital physical format anymore. End of an era

Who would've thought that vinyl would end up outlasting CDs

Why are people so into vinyl these days? All the new sh*t is digital to vinyl, and for the old sh*t they don't have access to the analog material for their source. It defeats the entire purpose.

I still use data/mp3 CD's for my car. Just get a cd and put 80+ raw files on it. I dont care what anyone says. In a car, CD's have some of the best quality imo. Volume, bass, treble, etc. Now, outside of a car, that's another story.

This is true. Bluetooth degrades quality.

This is sad. Cds have the best audio quality is the only non-compressed audio format other than .flac.

All u dudes talking about bluetoothing mp3s in ur car are losing quality heavy. Atleast use the damn aux. port w/cord. Bluetoothing compress it even more.

I got a sick sound system and still play cds i burned on blank discs @320kbps. I got a dope system so i can notice the diffrence. this really is a sad day.

Enjoy listening to ur sh!tty spotify @128kbps the new 'industry standard'. i just auto manufacturing does'nt copy along and get rid of cd players in newer model CARS. smh

My n*gga if u using windows u need a program called WINAMP.

Its syncs playlists perfectly to samsung galaxys, notes, htc, any android basically. You can just drag and drop mp3 and create ur own playlists just like itunes. It wayy better than that sh!tty 'android file transfer' and 'Samsung Kies' software they always tell u to download. Just make sure to check the box in settings 'do not sync automatically' and 'manually add files' and u good money.
Lemme kno if u need help doggie. i been fukin wit WINAMP for 5 years now...no probz.

Props for the info I've been using winamp for like 15 years but only as my music tester when i download stuff. If it s sounds OK in winamp i then copy into my itunes library. Gonna have to look into this cos i hate Kies. VLC comes close but not quite. Google play is garbage you cant even reorganise your playlists properly and sometimes it doubles and triples up songs... need to look into this thanks again!
