Deleting Every Social-Media App From My Phone Is the Best Thing Iíve Done in 2018

image

The smartest decision Iíve made so far in 2018 has been deleting every social-media app from my phone. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, even my little-used Discord app ó they all got the boot. (Workplace chat app Slack remains for, well, work-related reasons, but you must have the serenity to accept the things you cannot change.)

As you get older, one of the ways life remunerates your increasing irrelevance is you gain a measure of self-knowledge. And I know my brain is, at heart, like a bird pecking at a mirror. Put something shiny in front of me, and Iíll go after it endlessly until you either put food in a dish near me or make me think itís nighttime. Social-media apps simply became that shiny thing. Every time I stepped into an elevator, or got in line at a grocery store, or simply walked down the hallway at work, I instinctively went for the bottom right corner of my phone where my Twitter app lived, opening it up for the endless flow of information and feedback. I was addicted, full stop.

I got rid of IG and Facebook.....well I took Facebook off my phone back in 2010, battery drain... and have since got away from FB altogether...

I kept Twitter, business stuff.... but this is 100% spot on.... Having that much access to information has never been healthy for us. We aren't supposed to interact with so many people on a daily basis either....

As soon as I can get my Crowdfire really built up and IFTTT fully automated I can probably shut down Twitter app as well.

Just did the same about three days ago. Wifey claimed I was on my phone way too much. So I deleted my social media apps. Feels good to not be on my phone so much but I have a hard time keeping up with current events since I can no longer just open a social media app (where I get the majority of my news). Oh well... most of that sh*t is bad anyway.

Been off social media for about 10 months now. Realized the other day that ive been less stressed, and won’t have to worry about losing friendships over sh*tty political opinions anymore.

I haven't had a FB in years and I deleted Instagram and Snapchat a year or two ago as I rarely used them and were just a waste of time and space. The only social media app I have now is Twitter, but I use that a lot for business related stuff and networking. I don't really use it on my phone that much, though. I'll check some stuff for a few minutes in the morning while I'm eating breakfast or if I'm waiting for something/someone, but that's mostly about it.

For news I just use Flipboard. You don't have to interact with anyone and you can get a variety of news so I'm not really hurting on that front. I don't even really use it that often either. Same thing like Twitter: I use it in the morning and when I'm waiting.

I will say that it was great when I deleted that cesspool called FB. Drama and stress dropped quite a bit. I use a FB for business, but I rarely go on it and there isn't much personal information on it. Social media will really be the downfall of us all.

Never had a Twitter.
Been off of my space since 2004.
Been off of Facebook since 2006.
Never had snapchat.
Never had instagram.
I love interacting with random people in person.
The rest of the people that are on social media 247, good luck on building your social skills. A lot of my friends are on that bullsh*t all day and suck at conversing.

if you gotta make a big announcement and tell everyone that you deleted social media , it doesn't count.

including that c*nt who made a youtube video about how great her life is without any friends and then told everyone to subscribe.

plenty of us have been existing isolated for awhile now

Yeah I got rid of IG and Twitter a few years

It was a good decision. I’m on my phone way less

Other than Boxden and Snapchat (which I don’t really count as social media since I only have like handful of followers)

Never had a Facebook either so I feel like I’m incognito and disconnected to a lot of my circle of friends and a.ssociates.

But I don’t mind honestly

tbh I love social media

Derive inspiration/motivation from those I follow on IG

Then technically the site I most often use, after boxden

Biggerpockets.com is a real estate social website/media platform

it's really a double edged sword/depends how it's utilized

From the internet; so much access to information and potential partnerships if that's how you move

So much potential for fu*kery if that's how you move

I think the amount of usage also key

Most that using it for business or for key purposes not on there all day everyday

When it's a time sink that's when its potential for fu*kery is exponential
