2017 has been quite the year for hip-hop and now that the year is coming to a closing its only right that we make a list of the top 10 tracks of the year. There has been a number of amazing hip-hop/rap albums and mixtape to drop this year, but only a few projects had tracks worthy of holding the title of “best of 2017”. We have included our top 10 tracks of the year in chronological order below, let us know if you agree with our list below. ↪ NHHS

1. Kendrick Lamar – DNA

Kendrick Lamar shocked the world April 14, 2017 when he dropped his critically acclaimed ‘DAMN’ album which included “DNA” as a lead single. Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DNA’ is hands down the best single hip-hop track of 2017, and that’s saying a lot considering how many dope tracks were on the album. Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DNA” is the epitome of what quality hip-hop sounds like with lyrics, mixed with banging production from one of trap music’s premier producers Mike Will Made-it. Kendrick Lamar set the bar with ‘DNA’ which also had one of the best music video of year thanks to its video which co-stars the legendary Don Cheadle.

2. Drake – Free Smoke

Drake dropped ‘Free Smoke’ on his “More Life” Playlist on March 18, 2017, the song served as the intro for the project and is hands down the best track on the album. Drake clarified just why he is the king of hip-hop with “Free Smoke” which he took shots at rappers like Meek Mill, Tory Lanez, Frank Ocean & some even suggested Drizzy took shots subliminal shots at HOV aka Jay-Z. Free Smoke must be included in the list of a top 10 track of 2017, compliments to Boi-1da, Allan Ritter, & Akira Woodgrain for their contributions of the production.

3. Future – Mask Off

Future’s “Mask Off” is undeniably one of the best hip-hop songs of the year, the song which samples Tommy Butler’s ‘Prison Song’ grew to be Future’s highest charting single to date. The song peaked at #5 of the US Billboard Hot 100, and managed to even top higher than ‘Draco’ which was the lead single from Future’s fifth studio album ‘FUTURE’. Future’s “Mask Off” song has production by Metro Boomin who hands down crafted one of the best beats of the year.

4. Cardi B – Bodak Yellow

Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” is more than just a remix of Kodak Black’s “No Flockin”, and that’s a fact considering the tremendous success of the single. Cardi B set the summer of fire with her “Bodak Yellow” song which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks! It seems like you can’t turn on the radio and not hear Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” song, and with that said, it’s a must we place the song as the #4 hip-hop song of the year.

5. Lil Uzi Vert – XO Tour Llif3

Lil Uzi Vert pushed his way into the mainstream with the success of his mega-hit “XO Tour Llif3” which is produced by one of hip-hop’s best producers TM88. ‘XO Tour Llif3’ quickly became one of the years hottest anthems after he dropped the song March 24, 2017, the song eventually peaked at number 7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. If you went to any club or party during the summer of 2017, it’s a must that you heard ‘XO Tour Llif3’.. unless your living under a rock. We have to place ‘XO Tour Llif3’ as the #5 song of 2017.. watch the video below.

6. Yo Gotti – Rake It Up (feat. Nicki Minaj)

Yo Gotti has his best year musically in 2017, and that’s no surprise when you consider the success of his Nicki Minaj assisted single “Rake It Up”. ‘Rake It Up’ was and still is one of the best club records of the year, and its the undisputed top strip club anthem of the year thanks to its production by Mike Will Made-it & 30 Roc. The song samples Too Short’s classic “Freaky Tales” song which is one of the top 100 hip-hop songs ever. Yo Gotti’s “Rake It Up” song is often credited to the song which brought Nicki Minaj back into relevance.. either way the song is undeniably one of the best tracks of 2017.

7. 21 Savage – Bank Account

21 Savage has a big year in 2017 thanks to the success of his second studio album “ISSA’, which included the hit-single “Bank Account” produced by Metro Boomin. The song served as the lead single for “ISSA”, and propelled 21 Savage into a new level or stardom peaking at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

8. Kodak Black – Tunnel Vision

Kodak Black had his biggest year yet in 2017, and thanks to the success of his Southside & Metro Boomin produced “Tunnel Vision” he became a house-hold name. The song quickly became on of the top anthems of 2017 after its release on February 17, 2017 on his “Painting Pictures” album. The video for “Tunnel Vision” had one of the most controversial music videos of the year, which helped the song reach other demographics than it would have reached musically. We fill as that Kodak Black proved himself as a relevant force in hip-hop with “Tunnel Vision”, the video is must watch if you haven’t seen it before.. watch it below!

9. Tay-K – The Race

Tay-K's "The Race" cannot be overlooked, the song which peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 had a huge amount of success and could have been even bigger if didn't he hadn't get locked up. 'The Race' is probably the years most remixed hip-hop records of 2017 which helped it earn the #9 spot on our list of the top 10 hip-hop, rap, trap songs of 2017.

10. Tee Grizzley – First Day Out

Tee Grizzley catapulted himself into stardom with his success of his lead single “First Day Out” which debuted on his debut mixtape “My Moment”. Tee Grizzley saw a new level of success with his Helluva produced track which peaked at 48 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song is a straight banger which is hands down one of the hottest tracks of 2017. Watch the full video below.
