My Review of Thor: Ragnarok

Caught a screening earlier tonight. If you seek a fun time at the movies this is it. Strictly your usual comic book plot. Evil villain wants to rule the world (or universe in this case) and hero/heroes need to stop her.

Look I get it, the movie is funny. I LOL's, like really literally LOL'd, several times during the movie. As far as action goes it's serviceable if you enjoy heroes smashing hordes of baddies we could care less about. That's the problem here - other than the humor nothing really registers or is significant enough to GAF about.

By now you know which side of the fence you're on. You either like or love Marvel movies. They're harmless popcorn entertainment to k*ll time with. Personally I like them for that very reason but I've yet to find a Marvel movie I truly love (GOTG comes the closest).

The nerds in the crowd though might walkaway very disappointed. A fate similar to what one experienced with "Captain America: Civil War" plagues this too. Marvel relies on a popular story arc, hypes it in trailers but delivers a mediocre adaptation. Yes, this was never supposed to be a full on version of "Planet Hulk". Yet the pay off of pairing these two characters is so rushed it's like they're not even trying anymore.

Hey, but if you can ignore all that you'll be pleasantly pleased with the colourful visuals, humour, quirky score and all to familiar action sequences.

Huh.

Well, that's about what I expected, however I almost feel like you gotta grade these MCU films on a curve.

OP prolly saw it over in the UK, they get an early release. Cant wait to see this, looks like a fun movie, my main gripe with the previous couple of Marvel movies was that they were trying to be too funny, but I think I could deal with fun and jokes from Hulk and Thor more than I ever could from Iron Man

lololololo DC for life, it was just a matter of time Marvel's popcorn k*ll time movies would start wearing off on people's choices, unlike Dc that really cares about the art and tries to make impressive movies although not so lucky but we are on the way

I wish it were so simple.

DC really dropped the ball with MOS and BvS and JL seems to be them trying to emulate Marvel. Such a shame cos large parts of MOS showed great potential. Had they found someone who could captain the ship a little competently and build a grounded universe, ala Nolanverse, we could've had two very distinct cinematic comic universes. Guess the ship has sailed and we're straddled with two CGI heavy live action universes.

MOS was more CGI heavy than any marvel films the problem is they tried to go "grounded" but Zack Snyder has never been capable of telling a story so instead what we got was just dull and loud

Thor wasn't that serious but was miles better than any DC movie to date. A movie can be light hearted and still be good
