Be crazy if they have legit minor leagues like baseball.

It will legitimize all that shady sh*t.

it'll be a great day when the NCAA can no longer make millions off of these athletes while all they get is a scholarship that isn't worth no where near the millions these schools are making off of the student athletes..

Hockey and baseball consistently give contracts to teenagers without any negative.

We will see a legit story saying someone drafted a 16 yr old Dominican, no scandal.

Big if this is their intent

this is interesting as it shows the NBA is trying to be more like baseball and become a fully independent entity.

It's already the NBA minor leagues

The NBA G League is the National Basketball a.ssociation's official minor league basketball organization.

At the conclusion of the 2013–14 NBA season, 33% of NBA players had spent time in the NBA D-League, up from 23% in 2011. As of the 2017–18 season, the league consists of 26 teams, all of which are either single-affiliated or owned by an NBA team.

I feel like it's deeper than that. Maybe it's too much talent inflating the league and that they are trying to slow up the talent that's coming in year after year

This will be interesting. Seeing that guys coming straight out of high school have a mixed track record (they can be Kwame Brown or Lebron), the way this is gonna work will definitely be interesting. Like will there be a separate HS and college draft? Will there be more rounds added to accommodate all the wanna be NBA players in high schools? Will the majority of talented players choose the G League or college?? Will this hurt the prospects of future potential stars who were virtually unrecruited then came out of small time basketball schools (for example Steph, Dame, Gordon Hayward (pray for him by the way), CJ McCollum, PG13)? It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Right. This move shows that the NBA isn't chained to the hip with the NCAA like the NFL is. I think we're seeing this split for a couple reasons:
`
1. As we saw with LeBron, and now Zion Williamson and Lamelo Ball, The marketability of NBA players can start well before they graduate high school. The NBA (and all of the other parties with business stakes in pro ball ala Nike, Adidas, Gatorade,) are probably asking themselves why the NCAA gets to skim their cut off the top when the best players don't even need to college in the first place.

Getting rid of the one and done rule means the NBA gets to be the next party that benefits from the name and likeness of future NBA players instead of the NCAA getting a year of great ratings, merch sales, and ticket sales.

2. Being able to have players move into a pro-developmental atmosphere right after HS means greater control of the product. NBA franchises can now have a greater role in shaping players to fit into their systems the second they graduate high school. This presumably means better rounded players who will be better used to the pace/intensity of NBA games.

This is bad news for NAIA colleges, D2 colleges, & even JuCo... Some of the best talent slip into these college divisions because of grades and ACT/SAT scores.. with teams being able to draft these certain players into the G League it loses value to them too. And these colleges campuses won't be able to generate money and will tend to look like some NAIA, D2, JuCo college campuses where they are poor.

Man if only the Ball family would've waited 3 or 4 more years after Lonzo's og birthdate to start producing then he'd be seeing millions by Zo's junior year of high school or am I wrong?
