It gets 10 hours of battery life, can turn into a tablet, has a SD card and HDMI slot and I just put Linux (which is easy to do) and the pr0nhub app on it so I can do web development on it when I'm not at home at my desktop.

People are underrating the ChromeOS experience (especially when you have access to the Google Playstore now on any Chromebook that came out in the past like 2 years) and the fact you can actually get some work done on it via Linux. You can even run Steam through Linux and play some games on it too if that's your thing.

These things are the poor mans alternative to Mac Books. Facts. Any mid-range Chromebook ($300-400) is going to dominate anything in that price range.

Most people are buying these thinking they're getting a Microsoft Surface Pro experience and aren't really fu*king with ChromeOS so they're selling them a week later for $100-150 less than they paid. You can snatch one up right now barely used from any dummy in a 10 mile radius.

ChromeOS has def grown a lot. Question, what other distro did you load on it since ChromeOS is Linux?

I put Ubuntu 14.04(Trusty) with the XFCE desktop environment. It runs hella smooth. I tried to use the Unity desktop environment (it's just prettier to look at imo) but things weren't as smooth as the XFCE environment so I switched back. If my Chromebook had a better processor then I think it would of been good to go.

There's a big list of distros it runs. Even Kali Linux so you could even do pentesting on it as well if you were into that stuff (so in theory you could use your Chromebook to wardrive wifis).

Yeah, ChromeOS is literally just Linux so it makes installing another Linux distro on it very easy. The Linux distro you choose to install runs in a tab inside Chrome and you can switch back and forth between ChromeOS and the Linux distro at the same time. They run simultaneously together.

ChromeOS is a really comfortable and fast OS. I'm surprised at how much you really can do on it. I would recommend it to anyone with the exception of people who actually need a powerful laptop (graphic designers, some programmers, music producers and gamers). The only reason I have Ubuntu on it is so I can run Atom and Git.

My personal use for it was simple. I wanted something I could code on while away from my desktop. I don't need a lot of power to write or run code so any laptop would do but this Chromebook is not only giving a 10 hour battery life (no laptop in the $300-400 range is doing that) but it also turns into a very functional tablet as well.

I got a macbook pro 2017 mid 15 inch touch bar. It's expensive and not for everyone.

I mean i have tried chromebooks and it's good for the price. Google has money so they'll make it Apple quality in the near future.

I copped a decent used laptop off Craigslist a while back for $150. Was planning on going the Chromebook route but I doubted most of my wallets would work on ChromeOS. Now that I know you can put Linux on it, I may get one and install Linux to use it as a cold storage/air gap solution. Props.
