Oct 11 - Parents can now face jail time if their child is a bully

The new law, which went into effect on October 1 in North Tonawanda, New York, states that any parent of a child who violates city law twice within a 90-day period could be fined $250 and sentenced up to 15 days in jail.

This includes infractions such as bullying other children and breaking the city's curfew.

The law is modeled after an ordinance passed in Wisconsin in 2016, which called for steep fines for parents of children who bully other kids.

North Tonawanda City Attorney Luke Brown told ABC that he hopes the law will force parents to get involved in order to stop children from repeatedly bullying others.

"In reality, what we're looking for is to engage the parents in the process and try and work on a solution," Brown said.

I'm not too sure about this. I think if a case happens then family counseling should be mandatory. People are too focused on harsh punishment rather than encouraging discipline. But if the parent encouraged the bullying then yeah punishment needs to happen.

people need to raise their children better.. stop letting the tv, internet and prescription drugs do that sh*t.

if you can't handle that sh*t then stop having children.... if you're responsible for your children eating and being taken care of until they're 18 years old.. you're also responsible for teaching them how to be decent human beings.

This sh*t is ridiculous. I knew plenty of kids who had decent parents but did bad things regardless. sh*t is called free will. Of course a kid who has good parenting is less likely to act out, it's not a guarantee. This is most likely a move to generate income.

it says that parents can be punished if the kid breaks the law (twice)

a school would not involve police unless it's something really bad that they can't handle.

its bad publicity, and angers the parents who have a LOT of influence on school politcs (they are the customers)

GREAT.. the kid, who most likely is developing into a bully bc he doesn’t receive enough positive attention from his parents, is now going to lose his parents to jail and not receive any more attention from his parents

I kinda like this law tired of parents having children and non raising them.. people have these fu*ked up children and expect everyone but them to raise the their kids. Bullying comes from non intervention and parents not instilling wrong from right. That kids will be kids sh*t was cool when I was a kid you could go home and escape that sh*t. Now you have kids doxing other kids Swatting and all types of dumbsh*t parents gotta be more involved in their kids life. They are kids so the leash is only as long as you want it to be.

the biggest issue to me is everyone be recording the bullying these days so it makes it 10x worse for the kid getting bullied. I cant even imagine losing a f!ght at school now. Have to damn near move outta state cuz of sh*t getting posted on social media or even just texting it to everyone
