Ex-UFC f!ghter Passes Away After KO Loss in Boxing Match

An MMA f!ghter, Tim Hague, who was left in critical condition after being knocked out during a boxing match on Friday has died, his family has confirmed. "It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today," Hague's sister, Jackie Neil said in a statement Sunday. "He was surrounded by family, listening to his favourite songs. We will miss him so greatly." Hague was taken to hospital in critical condition after being knocked out by Adam Braidwood in a f!ght at the Shaw Conference Centre on Friday. In a video from the match, Braidwood is seen knocking Hague down multiple times.

Hague, who f!ghts out of Edmonton, Canada, also fought in the UFC. His nickname was "The Thrashing Machine" and he was cut from the UFC roster in 2011.

image

After his 2011 release, he wrote on his Facebook page that he needed time to heal from a concussion. "I'm gonna take a little break away from MMA, let the brain heal from my concussion, and get the passion/fire back." Hague's last f!ght before Friday's bout was in early April against Jared Kilkenny. He lost by TKO.

Hague trained at UFC Gym in Sherwood Park at least six times a week, said to the gym's owner, Alicia Landry. He usually stayed for two to three hours to lift weights and work on his conditioning. Though he boxed at another location, Hague offered one-on-one evening classes at Landry's gym. "Locally, he's iconic," Landry said. "The MMA industry in Edmonton is very small and it's very tight knit. Everybody has each other's backs, regardless of past issues. He was probably one of the most positive people I've ever met," she said. "He was just happy to do whatever he could to help anybody — I've never seen him have a bad day. If he saw somebody struggling with pads, he'd step in and volunteer his time to set them on the right path."

But your boy Floyd is always on about how barbaric MMA is implying boxing is a civilised combat sport where nothing ever goes wrong. If people getting brain damaged or k!lled more regularly makes boxing the manlier sport your welcome to it

Srs question how does boxing refs compare to UFC refs. Pretty positive UFC refs wouldn't allow a guy to keep going after getting knocked down/rocked 4 times. For the most part herb and the crew have a good eye for when a f!ghter has had enough. * not watching that vid

in regarding to the video: he walked off by himself.. but he was eating some serious bricks throughout the video.

and as far as difference between the referees i dont think i am qualified enough to talk about it but from what i gather:

ufc there is no counting so as long as you can defend yourself intelligently they will let you keep going or if you are f!ghting back enough

boxing as long as can beat the ten count rule they will let you f!ght but in some sanctioning agencies they consider three knock downs as a tko (im a.ssuming in this one they did not)

Should the referee count to ten, then the knocked-down boxer is ruled "knocked out" (whether unconscious or not) and the other boxer is ruled the winner by knockout (KO). A "technical knock-out" (TKO) is possible as well, and is ruled by the referee, f!ght doctor, or a f!ghter's corner if a f!ghter is unable to safely continue to f!ght, based upon injuries or being judged unable to effectively defend themselves. Many jurisdictions and sanctioning agencies also have a "three-knockdown rule", in which three knockdowns in a given round result in a TKO. A TKO is considered a knockout in a f!ghter's record. A "standing eight" count rule may also be in effect. This gives the referee the right to step in and administer a count of eight to a f!ghter that he or she feels may be in danger, even if no knockdown has taken place. After counting the referee will observe the f!ghter, and decide if he or she is fit to continue. For scoring purposes, a standing eight count is treated as a knockdown.

Point blank we've been saying this for years. In mma there's many different disciplines used for a f!ghter to develop his style. In boxing there's different variations but you have to have good fundamentals or run the risk of serious injury. You have masters of hit and don't get hit like Rigondeaux and Mayweather who are considered boring by a lot of these bullsh*t n*ggaz analysis. Then you have guys with offense and no defense like Brandon Rios who a lot of guys love but personally I can't stand because he runs the risk of getting him self seriously injured. You have lungers/brawlers like Chino Maidana and Sean Porter who some love for their dirty tactics but to me they make for ugly f!ghts and their bouts borderline seem like mma bouts. Long story short it takes real balls to step in the ring from the get go but I still believe basic fundamentals as a boxer will go a longer way than techniques as an mma f!ghter as a good stand up game can translate over to MMA but BJJ and certain other forms of discipline won't translate over to the sweet science

Muy Thai, kick boxing, and karate teach various blocking techniques, I personally feel they are some of the main things that would/could translate over to boxing but only the real elite use the soft and hard blocking techniques at times to punish their opponent

All facts but MMA is just as dangerous as boxing if not more dangerous. n*ggas taking knees, round house kicks and elbows to the head. That sh*t is no joke. And while there are many different disciplines, those at the top of their respective disciplines (in MMA) are just as skilled and nuanced as a Mayweather in boxing.

I don't follow MMA but I'm not going to sh*t on it to build up the sport I love.

i prefer mma and it is definitely bloodier but a little safer

You can lose in MMA by never getting struck once.
In boxing, there is almost zero chance of losing without getting a barrage of headshots, unless someone throws a sick body shot.

Concussions will fu*k you up.
i seen this comment on

and this new yprk times article

After reviewing post-f!ght medical examination records from more than 1,180 M.M.A. combatants and 550 boxers over 10 years researchers at the University of Alberta in Canada reported that M.M.A. f!ghters end up with minor injuries such as contusions, bruises, bloody noses and facial cuts at higher rates than boxers, while boxers are more likely to suffer from more serious injuries such as concussions, loss of consciousness, broken noses and bones, and eye injuries including retinal detachment. Boxers were also more likely to receive longer post-f!ght medical suspensions than M.M.A. athletes.

The study, which was published earlier this month in , is one of the first and largest to compare injuries between the two heavy hitting sports.

and remember mma referees are usually much more quicker to stop a f!ght
