Throwback Nas - Blunt Ashes

image Nasir with intricate storytelling of the late greats. Skeletons were definitely in the closet back in the good ole days. Didn't know David Ruffin was beating Tammi Terrell badly until one of my homies put me on to the story. How did you fellas feel when you heard this joint?

I'm so much of a beat head, I never really paid much attention to this joint till now.

Didn't fu*k with that album much cause I didn't like the beats, but I'm glad you put me on.

It was cool to hear some soul music history rhymed by Nas!

Crazy right I think my homie put me on before Unsung started coming on TV. Couldn't believe it and I never knew about the Prince and Alexander O'neal story either. O'neal is one of my Pop's favorite artists..the cat say he saw him and Morris Day perform so many times that he could go years without going to another one of their concerts. Matter of fact I saw Morris play last year in Atlanta and ended up running into Professor Griff just walking around vibing lol

I feel you I actually skipped this album because I was kind of salty at Esco for saying Hip Hop was Dead at the time. Me being from the South I took offense..but now that I'm more mature I really see where he was coming from

Boxden just blew my mind tonight.

There's this, and the black wallstreet thread where someone said The Gap Band name was based on the hole in the ground where the bomb landed destroying the town, and their single "You Dropped A bomb On Me" was about that sh*t.

Never got a chance to see Prince live my dude. That would've been one of the highlights of my life to witness greatness Wish I could've seen Barry White and Love Unlimited too. I was actually with my pops when I saw Morris Day at a Funk Fest and told him it would've been better if D-Train Williams was there before I realized that he had passed away...this is one of my favorite joints by him though

I knew about the tammi thing. The only thing i wondered about that was why didnt marvin gaye do anything about it since him and tammi were extremely close. Made me think marvin was either pus*y or she was just a hoe to him. He always struck me as the type to really care bout those around him

Oh damn you right!

When I don't know who produced what on a Nas album you know I wasn't fu*king with that particular album.

Still love that loop tho.

I think God's Son was probably the last Nas album I was really diggin.
