Dec 13 - College student arrested with fireworks and weapons at Trump Tower

A 19-year-old Baruch College student was reportedly arrested Monday night after he attempted to enter Trump Tower in New York with fireworks, the New York Post reported Tuesday. He was charged with two counts of criminal possession in the fourth degree and unlawful possession of fireworks, police told The Post.

Alexander Wang allegedly walked into President-elect Donald Trump’s titular tower at 6:35 p.m. ET and Secret Service agents found a large knife, firecrackers, a water gun and handcuffs after searching his backpack.

The Post reported that one of the fireworks was a M100, which the ATF says can cause “severe damage to face, arms, and body,” as well as a garrote, a length of wire or cord that can be used to strangle a person.

Wang also allegedly said that he "always" walks around with the items in his backpack.

The New York City Police Department took Wang into custody. Though there was no further disruption from the student, according to the report, but after his dorm room at Baruch College was searched police did find more fireworks.

A search of the college’s official site shows one member of its men’s cross country team with a similar name, called Alexander Yan-Nan Wang, who is a freshman majoring in entrepreneurial management and hailing from Poughquag, New York. The Post also reported that the Wang arrested is also from Poughquag.

He was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year last year and was voted the team’s MVP, according to the official athletics site. It's unclear if this is the same student arrested at Trump Tower on Monday night.

Following Trump’s election in November, the tower has been the focal point of many protests and even flag burnings. On Nov. 11, three days after Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton, police charged a 23-year-old woman with felony a*sault after she allegedly pushed a 74-year-old man to the ground.

Trump has used his home and office, rather than his soon-to-be Washington D.C. digs, to flesh out his cabinet selections and further conduct his transition to the White House until Inauguration Day on Jan. 20, 2017.
