A list of specifications for the next-generation Galaxy S8 has been posted online by a tipster who claims to be familiar with Samsung’s plans for the device. They say the handset will offer a 5.5-inch 4K display and 6GB of RAM as standard.
A 4K display may seem like overki1l on a 5.5-inch smartphone, but with virtual reality taking off in a big way, super-sharp displays are actually serving a valuable purpose. Those VR lenses make pixels visible even on today’s Quad HD panels.
It’s not too crazy to imagine the Galaxy S8 will be Samsung’s first phone with a 4K display, then. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this rumor, either; it first surfaced back in June, and we’ve been hearing similar claims from various sources ever since.
The tipster, who posted these specifications on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo, also claims the Galaxy S8 will have 6GB of RAM. That’s 2GB more than last year’s Galaxy S7 series — and the now discontinued Galaxy Note 7.
Other Galaxy S8 specifications could include Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 830 prcoessor, or Samsung’s Exynos 8895 — both of which are manufactured using the latest 10-nanometer processes.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 at Mobile World Congress next February. We’re likely to see many more leaks and rumors like this one before then.
