83 minutes shows Warriors' potential to set many records

Eighty three minutes.

That’s how many minutes Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have played together in the preseason with all four on the floor for the Golden State Warriors.

Yes, it’s a small sample size.

Yes, it’s preseason.

Yes, it should be taken with a grain of salt.

But in those 83 minutes, they’ve put up numbers that would make them:

1) The most efficient offensive team in NBA history – by a wide margin.

2) The best shooting team in NBA history – by a wide margin.

3) The best passing team in modern NBA history – by a wide margin.

Offensive Efficiency

With those four on the floor, the Warriors have averaged 119.9 points per 100 possessions. The NBA record (according to estimates by Basketball-Reference.com)? 115.6 by the "Showtime" Lakers in 1986-87 (whose roster included Klay's father, Mychal Thompson).

So with those four on the floor, the Warriors have scored over four more points per 100 possessions than the most efficient offense in league history.

Effective FG Pct

With those four on the floor, the Warriors have an effective field goal percentage of 63.2.

The all-time NBA record is 56.3 by last season's Warriors.

The gap between those is currently the same as the gap between the current record and 403rd-best ever.

It’s buoyed by the fact that they’ve taken more threes (77) than twos (71) when on the floor together.

Percentage of assisted made field goals

If you thought the ball would stick, you thought wrong. With those four on the floor, the Warriors have assisted on 78 percent of their made field goals.

The NBA record in the 3-point era is 73 percent by the 2002-03 Jazz, which was the last iteration of John Stockton-to-Karl Malone.

Sharing is caring

With all of that firepower, it’s the ultimate pick your poison for defenses. In those 83 minutes, Durant (39), Curry (37) and Thompson (36) have taken almost the same number of shots.
