Samsung Note 7: Third 'safe' replacement catches fire
Following the news that another Note 7 replacement device caught fire, Samsung is in trouble again.
The device belonged to Michael Klering from Kentucky, United States, who had it a for a little over a week. Speaking to WKYT about the incident, Klering said he woke at 4am to find his bedroom filled with smoke. “The entire room just covered in smoke, smells awful. I look over and my phone is on fire”. He added, “The phone is supposed to be the replacement, so you would have thought it would be safe. It wasn’t plugged in. It wasn’t anything, it was just sitting there”. Klering started feeling sick later in the day after which he went to a hospital where he was diagnosed with acute bronchitis caused by smoke inhalation. Samsung contacted Klering after the incident and requested to take the device to which he refused. However, the company did pay him to get the phone x-rayed. The most disturbing part of the entire incident though was when Klering received a message from a Samsung representative, which was clearly not supposed to go to him. That message read:Just now got this. I can try and slow him down if we think it will matter, or we just let him do what he keeps threatening to do and see if he does it “It made me think you know they’re not taking this serious enough and it’s time to move on,” Klering said. He is now seeking legal help and wants to bring the issue to light so that it doesn’t happen to someone else. “They’re in kid’s pockets, people’s cars, all kinds of things. We saw with the first ones. Samsung needs to do something to get these off the market,” Klering said. This is the third incident of a replacement Note 7 catching fire after Samsung carried a global recall for its flagship device that suffers from overheating batteries. ![]() ![]() |

wtf was the point of the recall? it seems phones are catching fire just as bad as the other units.
I can't believe this on the part of Samsung how bad this effort was done. |

Like.....The Galaxy Nova or the Galaxy Andromeda..or Galaxy Nebulous. IF they decide to keep something close to the space theme. Last edited by Doomque; 10-10-2016 at 09:06 PM..

I just thought of one that would make them rebrand that it a big way but they have to be free of issues and beefy on the specs for this name.

Not sure if this is related but on my S7 it was gettin HOT as fu*k! Looked online really quick and found out the Occulus app was making it overheat and drain battery instantly... it was crazy but could be a software issue combined with hardware

putting things side-by-side, the only thing I can think of is the presence of USB-C that makes the fundamental difference power-wise on the device if the batteries were *that* bad, Samsung could have simply re-allocated their typical battery cells, and I actually doubt that chemically, the batteries are any different (internally) than the S7 or older models this has to come down with the charging process initially (5V is USB standard, past fast-charging on the older note was 9V and this version with USB-C: 12VOLTS) My suspiscion: 12Volts and their current generation batteries are more than likely a no-no, and major fine-tuning will lead them to get to the source of the problem and guarantee that this type of issue will never happen again side-note: Most (if not all) android phones run at 5 Volts. The Note 7 (with fast charge mode on) charges at 12V which means that some level of conversion is made internally to bring it down to 5V. Drop the voltage, increase the currnent. I would bet that it is the culprit that brings instability leading to the problem. All note 7 owners, do NOT turn on Fast-charging. Keep it with the regular 5v mode on and I can almost bet that the issue will be non-existent Last edited by flav; 10-11-2016 at 09:58 AM..
