AT&T, The Nation's 2nd Biggest Carrier, Won't Be Selling The HTC 10

image

HTC announced the HTC 10 on Tuesday morning. Itís the companyís new flagship Android smartphone that will go toe-to-toe with the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 in many markets, including the United States. Itíll be sold by Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S. but, oddly enough, wonít be carried by AT&T.

ďAT&T wonít be selling HTC 10 directly, so we encourage AT&T customers to purchase the open channel device directly from HTC.com,Ē HTC said in a statement provided to TechnoBuffalo.
Itís a bit of a shame considering HTCís devices are typically top notch. The One M7 and One M8 were popular among smartphone enthusiasts, though last yearís One M9 has largely been viewed as a dud. Did that device scare AT&T away? We donít know.

We will reach out to AT&T for comment and will update this story once we hear back. Itís possible HTC and AT&T have some sort of special deal worked out but, for now, U.S. AT&T customers will need to buy the unlocked model.

Once again...I try so hard to like you HTC...but enjoy the L. Not having your phone available on the 2nd biggest carrier is gonna be great for sales. Its not like this is a cheap phone that people will buy unlocked. At $700 there are much more reasonable option's for at least 20% less.

You can tell HTC is still "focused" on phones as their main source of revenue. How else do you explain their flagship device not being available on the 2nd biggest cellphone carrier in America?

In the words of @, the 10 looks like it will continue the trend of HTC selling "well..." to their entire 3-person fan base.

blame at&t... HTC 10 is perfectly useable on at&ts network

If you want ATT to sell the phone, then go and tell em

I blame HTC cause they have no idea how to market a phone. Despite them having arguably the best phone out at the time (See M8) people still don't buy their products enough to justify ATT carrying it.

If you think carriers actually listen to us you're more dense than I thought.

You wonder why phones still come loaded with carrier bloatware, locked bootloaders, super late updates despite not one single human being wanting any of those things?? Cause carriers dgaf about what we think. In their eyes if they are making a profit why change sh*t?

That kinda attitude ain't gonna help sh*t.

HTC has gotten around bloatware, slow updates, and locked bootloader.

If you ain't gon support em then that's you submitting to the bullsh*t you say you're mad at.

Bless.

Blame AT&T for not wasting money carrying a phone that they won't move? Every single AT&T store, HTC's just collect dust on the shelves in the inventory rooms. Smart move, put your money elsewhere.

Every phone works on AT&T though. If this was Verizon, it would be a different story. We all know the common folk aint checkin for HTC, but if you are an HTC stan you ain't SOL, unless you're cheap and want it subsidized

I'm hearing that at&t will indeed sell the HTC 10, potentially an exclusive joint.

This is looking to be a re-occurring thing now. Sprint did this with the Blackberry recently and won't be carrying it after originally saying they would and also never carried the LG V10. I think you're going to start seeing this more and more if the phones don't sell well, the carriers will stop carrying them altogether. This saves the carrier money on buying stock and then getting stuck with it if they don't sell through it and taking an overall loss.
