Everybody pretty much said it all. For your back, it is important to place your hands in different positions. They should be underhand, overhand, close together, and far apart. Be sure that you are able to control the weight, because people often have a tendency to jerk the weight. Do not worry about how much others are lifting in the gym. Lots of body-builders did more weight in their bicep curls than Arnold Schwarzenegger, but his biceps were waaaay more developed.
