Salaries for UFC 168

image
UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, Anderson Silva and Josh Barnett were the top earners at this past weekend’s UFC 168 event.

MMAjunkie today obtained the list of disclosed paydays from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the Dec. 28 pay-per-view event at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The total disclosed payroll for the event was $1,872,000.

Silva, who suffered a horrific leg break in a headlining loss, earned a base pay of $600,000, and he would have earned an additional $200,000 with a victory. Weidman ranked behind him with $400,000, of which $200,000 was a win bonus. Barnett, meanwhile, earned a flat rate of $170,000 in a knockout loss to Travis Browne, who earned $56,000.

The full list of disclosed paydays included:

Champ Chris Weidman: $400,000 (includes $200,000 win bonus)
def. Anderson Silva: $600,000

Champ Ronda Rousey: $100,000 (includes $50,000 win bonus)
def. Miesha Tate: $28,000

Travis Browne: $56,000 (includes $28,000 win bonus)
def. Josh Barnett: $170,000

Jim Miller: $92,000 (includes $46,000 win bonus)
def. Fabricio Camoes: $8,000

Dustin Poirier: $46,000 (includes $23,000 win bonus)
def. Diego Brandao: $20,000*

Uriah Hall: $20,000 (includes $10,000 win bonus)
def. Chris Leben: $51,000

Michael Johnson: $36,000 (includes $18,000 win bonus)
def. Gleison Tibau: $39,000

Dennis Siver: $66,000 (includes $33,000 win bonus)
def. Manny Gamburyan: $25,000

John Howard: $32,000 (includes $16,000 win bonus)
def. Siyar Bahadurzada: $17,000

William Macario: $20,000 (includes $10,000 win bonus)
def. Bobby Voelker: $12,000

Robert Peralta: $24,000 (includes $12,000 win bonus)
def. Estevan Payan: $10,000

* – Brandao fined 25 percent of purse for missing weight; half went to NSAC and half to Poirier (not reflected in above figures)

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a f!ghter’s income. They also do not include any other “locker room” or special discretionary bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays. Additionally, they don’t include any pay-per-view revenue some top f!ghters receive.

For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out additional $75,000 UFC 168 bonuses to Browne (“KO of the Night”), Rousey (“Submission of the Night” and “f!ght of the Night” for $150,000 total) and Tate (“f!ght of the Night”).

In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.

See why Weidman waited to renegotiate his contract til after he beat Silva? Ballsy a.ss move but now he making that Cain Velasquez money

Why even make these posts...here we go, 3 pages of "oh Dana Dollaz ripping f!ghters off"...oh "Dana the slave master with the deception"..."Floyd makes 100 billion every f!ght....boxing >>>"....

For the 1000th time:

1. MMA, UFC in specific is a YOUNG a.ss sport, please do not compare that to boxing, NBA, NFL, etc...it's just so structurally different.

2. MMA guys f!ght more often..

3. How you people don't get this is mind boggling.....that is just the SPECIFIED f!ght salary...you know how much Silva made on sponsors, PPV cuts, etc.....like how do you just ignore that...

4. Dana/UFC give so many bonuses when people deserve them, they will announce the basic FOTN, SOTN, and KOTN bonuses but they CONSTANTLY give bonuses to guys that show up to f!ght, or have a great finish, or whatever...

5. MMA IS 20 YEARS OLD......for a major sport that had to go through so much adapting and improving over the years its still in SUPER EARLY stages...

6. The f!ghter's rarely complain because they know what they make, it's always the stupid illogical fans that think they are "protecting" the f!ghters...you are not the union and your baseless opinions are just that, baseless.....now lets continue with 7 pages of "Dana=Slave Owner"...

I guess I'll play this part then...

So you don't think Dana paid out some extra bonuses to guys like Uriah, who might have had KOOTN if not for the first round ending when it did, or Jim Miller, who probably deserved SOTN more?

You think Dana Dollas "gave" Uriah Hall a bonus for "maybe, possibly" having f!ght of the night? Not even actually having f!ght of the night, but "possibly" having f!ght of the night?

Everybody, I think we've found Lamar Odom's Boxden account. Only a crackhead would post something so dumb.

Mike Tyson said you never get paid what you're worth but the goal is to get paid the highest % of what you're worth.

Do you think Anderson Silva's worth is $600k?

I think that's only 20% of Anderson's worth.

Some of these dudes have PPV contracts where they get paid $2 or something after a PPV gets a certain amount of buys but that's trivial

Dana used to pay $2,500 a month in homeowner a.ssociation fees for 5 years just to keep a god damn pool with water falls in his backyard because his neighborhood didn't like it

Dana paid $$$ for snow so his kids could fu*king ski down the drive way

Do you think Dana is getting what he's worth? If so why can't the f!ghters? Dana is getting more money than Anderson

Dana just doesn't like to feed his f!ghters. He likes to keep them hungry. Because he's seen what happens when he gives them money, they leave, they get bi*chy or they aren't scared of Dana Dollas anymore. It's all manipulative. UFC doesn't allow sponsors to sponsor their f!ghter inside the cage unless UFC gets a big chunk of $$ from that sponsor. A lot of these smaller sponsors can't afford to pay both UFC + the f!ghter if the UFC charges so much. That's all part of their way of keeping f!ghters hungry. A lot of these smaller f!ghters could be racking up more $$$ if the UFC weren't so strict on sponsors. There's no more condom depot

Could the UFC pay the f!ghters more money(at least guarantee/reported money)? Yes. But they have been doing this long enough and seen enough ORGS fall because they start paying too much out. I do think the mid/low level guys should get paid more just to make sure they recoup training expenses.

The one thing that MMA has over boxing right now is that all of the best f!ghters are in one org and it makes for the best f!ghts available. If the UFC folded it would be disastrous for the sport.

The reason those orgs fail because they pay too much too soon. UFC can pay f!ghters more. Hell, Affliction paid Tim Sylvia to f!ght Fedor more money than UFC paid Anderson UFC isn't gonna go broke from paying f!ghters more shut up

I don't care about f!ght salaries but you need to work on your logic. They f!ght (work) more often so they should receive less pay? It's a "young a.ss sport" in "super early stages" therefore the f!ghters shouldn't be getting their just dues? The bonus' don't cover their worth but at least they're constant...

Doesnt matter how young the sport is its doing numbers and making lots of money because of the f!ghters, they deserve more seeing someones leg snap highlights that fact they are the ones in the trenches. The UFC owners defense is they put up money before the company was making it, well the f!ghters are putting their bodies on the line which is a far greater risk with seemingly little reward

Most events including PPVs the f!ghter pay could be paid with gate receipts alone, is that fair? 100k for Rousey is abysmal, she is in the top 3 biggest draws now arguably. If she can get into movies she would be wise to "strike when the irons hot"
