based on "Beasts from the east", "4,3,2,1", "Making A Name For Ourselves", and various other guest verses where he murdered everyone featured, during a lyrical time in hip-hop.
based on "2nd Round KO", often referred to as the 2nd best diss track of all time (behind Hit Em Up)
based on "Watch Who U Beef With", "Poet Laurette II", "100 Bars", "2000 BC" and various other lyrical-heavy tracks
based on about 300 of the best freestyles EVER (example - Canibus, DMX & Nore for 45min on Hot 97)
need i go on???
No. No need. I expected an answer like that. Is Canibus lyrically nice? Absolutely. But MCing ain't just punchlines & metaphors. If punchlines make you a legend, then Canibus would be at the top of the hill. But it doesn't & he's not. His albums suck. Like I mean bad, mane. Rip The Jacker
was cool, but that's about it. And his freestyles set the hip-hop world on fire. Like he was NEXT. Had a Source cover with no album out (back when that meant sh*t - interviewed by Rakim on some pass the torch sh*t), no less. I remember it well.
Like I said earlier, not debating Canibus' lyrical ability. Only an idiot would say that. But that's it, B. He's pretty much a one-trick pony. Hooks? No. Different flows? Not so much. Son just be on attack the mic mode. He literally has NO body of work to point to, other than a handful of amazing guest verses, & freestyles (I'll give you his freestyle were ill as all fu*k once upon a time). Stop throwing the word "legend" around with wastes of potential like Canibus. It's fu*king insulting to real legends like the KRS', Chuck D.'s, Nas', & Ice Cubes of the world . . . I'm just saying . . .
