With more than 2 million employees and fiscal 2010 sales reported at $405 billion, Walmart is one of the largest retail chains in the world. Employment with the company can lead to opportunities as an a.ssistant manager, co-manager or store manager.

Average Salary in the United States
The average salary of a Walmart store manager in the United States is $83,000 as of October 2010, according to Simply Hired.

Variations by State
As with most jobs, the average salary of a Walmart manager varies significantly depending on your location. Simply Hired puts the average salary of a Walmart manager in Arkansas, the home state of Walmart founder Sam Walton, at $94,000, which is $11,000 higher than the national average. Conversely, the average salary of a Walmart manager in Montana is $67,000, or $16,000 lower than the national average.

Other Management Jobs
Other than store manager, Walmart offers many different management opportunities. Simply Hired provided average salaries for the following types of managerial positions at Walmart in the United States as of October 2010: a.ssistant manager, $38,000; customer service manager, $43,000; manager at Walmart's home office, $56,000.

Honestly, that's pretty bad. Those Wal-Marts are hundreds of thousands of square feet, and you only make 83k in charge of the whole thing? A lot of managers at Target make 100k+ and those stores are way smaller.

Guess it's not a surprise though that Wal-Mart underpays

the walmart regime is a $400 billion yearly business

their 2012 profit was somewhere around $16 billion

they take out a $25000 insurance policy on every employee

when the employee dies the family doesnt see even 1 penny of that benefit

That's more than I honestly thought they made, but I wouldn't want to manage any of those big box stores. Think of everything that goes into managing a Walmart and everything you're responsible for.

My dad was a Wal Mart store manager for aprx. 20 years or so. Was making over $100k a year based. Plus, as with most retail management positions, he received a 5% bonus of overall profits. So the bonus largely depended on which city/state the Wal Mart was in that he was managing at the time, but he NEVER had a bonus smaller than $50k every year. Don't know what his biggest bonus was, but remember him showing me a check one year for a $68,000 bonus. So $168,000 a year job, no college diploma, etc. I'd say that's not too shabby....
