Prince never hated MJ, they were actually good friends.

But let me give yall a little knowledge Prince wrote, Produced, engineered and Played EVERYTHING on his first 5 albums, PLUS
3 albums by THE TIME
Vanity 6
Appolonnia 6
The Family
2 jazz album under the title Madhouse

so its not even close as far as who is the best artist, PRINCE hands down!!!!!
And as a entertainer, his live shows in the 80's were just as good if not better than MJ, but MJ has a more global appeal

OOOOOOOO BTW Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, & Ron Temperton(a white guy from the group Heatwave) wrote MJ's hits, go check the credits......
you mean rod temperton like i said you have to be specific with this type of discussion. arist or performer.. performer MJ all day.. artist prince all day..

Michael Jackson is one of the greatest artist of all time. Prince is a beast though, but he was never on MJ's level. And that's not even really a knock against Prince, because there weren't really anyone who was touching Mike at his peak.

That's factually incorrect. MJ set A LOT of trends in the studio with various recording techniques. Him and bruce swedien re-invented vocal layering. I made a post about it on page 5 or 6. EVERY producer that ever worked with Mike said they learned a lot FROM HIM, not vice versa. Quincy Jones and rodney jerkins used to talk about how MJ had then go out in the real world and record various sound effects to add to his music like tires screeching, birds chirping, sounds of rusty metal pipes clinging together, all kinds of sh*t. That's just one example. No matter who worked with him MJ was in charge in the recording studio and every producer will tell you this.

Man SOME of you prince fans really don't know jack about MikeJack.
Have you ever heard of Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys? They were doing that stuff in the 60'S. Now the recording techniques is actually new to me. I love MJ, don't get me wrong I just feel Prince doesn't get the credit he deserves.

I came back in here to add exactly these facts. Prince is no joke when it comes to putting together and recording his material, MJ also but he had a powerhouse of producers and songwriters behind him. If you ask who the BETTER ARTIST is then you gotta go with Prince. MJ has global appeal and some great music but when it comes to ALL the elements its got to be Prince . I mean you got guitar legends that still cant figure out WTF he did on the intro to When Doves Cry and Drummers including myself trying to recreate that drum part in Darling Nikki

The people that ar all for MJ it's probobly because MJ is a house hold name but if you study music and have listened to price and know what goes into his records as well as MJ's then the question is already answered : Prince is the better artist just on versatility alone

Its funny the question is "who is the greater artist" and people are posting videos about kids dancing to and like Michael Jackson, which has NOTHING to do with his artistry. Those videos are simply a testament to his influence. Influence ≠ artistry

Prince headed damn near a one-man powerhouse. Michael Jackson's music was shrouded by other greats, e.g. Quincy Jones, so its much more difficult to judge his artistry as an isolated individual. Based on efficiency alone, Prince would take the title of "greater artist." He could basically craft a whole album by himself. I doubt Michael Jackson had the ability to do that.

and timeout....have we forgotten the comparison in their vocal abilities???? Prince can hit registers MJ could only dream about.

I think the perfect test would be to put both artists in a room in isolation, by themselves and see who crafts the better raw sessions. Although this is now impossible, given that setup, I'm sure anyone with a decently critical mind would predict Prince as the victor.

But MJ was incorporating real world sounds into his music and blending them in in such a way you couldn't tell where that sound came from or what instrument it was. Haven't heard much from beach boys but i'de be willing to bet it just wasn't on MJ's level.

A lol @ Prince not getting enough credit. EVERYONE knows he can play a whole bunch of instruments and not just play them but excel at them. MJ played a few too just no where near Prince's level. Prince gets more than enough credit just being mentioned next to Michael. That should be enough. No artist in the history of music is on Michael Jackson's level. PERIOD. As great as Michael was he's still under estimated in how people just aren't aware of how involved he was behind the scenes. Ask yourself how can you be that mainstream, recognizable as an all time great and still be under-estimated? That's just crazy.
It was 20 years prior, technology had advanced. Of course it wasn't on that level, but Pet Sounds was revolutionary. Most of the stuff you mentioned was pioneered by them on that album. They used a coca cola can for percussion on a song, and made it work. Thats unheard of, give props when its due. You accuse Prince fans of being uneducated , you do some research yourself.

You obviously don't understand the larger picture here though

When it comes to art, influence is very important. I mean look at the ancient egyptians and there art. If you look around at women now-a-days your bound to see a few of them wearing an ankh. Your also bound to see a few of them talking about wanting to be there queens like Cleopatra and some of the deeper ones want to be like Nefertiti . When you really look at it, the ancient egyptians been dead for a long time now, but there art still lives on. There art has inspired many and that is what art does. Whether it be musical art or visual art.

I mean what good does art do if the person never puts it on display and just left it all in there basement.

The art's impact as well as the people it inspires counts too imo.
