I fu*kin LOVE The Purple Tape, but its annoying knowing damn well RD will lose because BX hates Jay and him winning. Regardless, I'm not mad at either advancing.
Excuses being made already.

Damn this one is close. Hard to see how these guys got a #8/ #9 draw..OB4CL probably would have been in my top 3. Gotta ride with that though..just a better all around album. Like said before, it folds out like a story.

-- Only Built For Cuban Linx is a CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE.....The (implied) lack of lyricism on Raekwon's part is a reflective derivative of not knowing or understanding Supreme Mathematics-- coupled with their own heavy slang.

This album was a blueprint for virtually all the Mafioso-styled albums to subsequently follow in its wake.

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... [is] one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. With its emphasis on American Mafia insinuations and organized crime, the album is widely regarded as a pioneer of the Mafioso rap genre. It has been esteemed as being highly effective on hip hop music over the next decade, being heavily referenced and influential on albums such as Doe or Die, Reasonable Doubt, It Was Written and Life After death...

SIDEBAR: The album is also commonly referred to as "The Purple Tape" because the original cassette's plastic was entirely purple; Raekwon marked the tape distinctively as a reference to drug dealers' method of tagging their product, to distinguish it from that of others'.[6] "I wanted to portray an image that if I was selling crack or dimes in the street, you would recognize these dimes from other n*ggas' dimes."[6]

Needless to say, OB4CL was that work!

-- I miss the days of Loud Records-- as this album, amongst so many other offerings like "Capital Punishment", "Ironman", "Let's Get Free", "The Infamous" and so on, were released on that iconic label. So many classics. So much variety. So many memories!

Had to vote RD just because I listen to it slightly more. OB4CL is amazing though and if it wins it's well deserved.

I never got on the hype train (which came many years later) of RD.

OB4CL had everyone like this dude Rae is "damn"

The east has BIG, Nas and Rae
Yeah I agree. That and people getting to hear more of GhostFace. I remember my son from Fort Greene got into a real live fist f!ght with my cousin over who had the best verse on Wu-Gambinos.

Lotta n*ggas I knew thought Jay-Z was corny

I think I was the only n*gga in my hood bumpin that album at the time. But my homeboy would dub all the bootlegs so and I'd stop by his apartment before going to school and just listen to everything Jansport filled with stolen walkmans

Meth k!lled that Wu-Gambinos sh*t tho. lol
Fuhking love that verse!
