I stopped copping once they broke $125...even that was ridiculous in hindsight. For something that costs less than a dollar to make - hell of a profit margin. I'll be honest, I don't miss them at all. Actually was kind of nice to sell off a few old pairs.

Hmmm
So let me get this straight. Shoes that originally cost less that a buck thirty when they first dropped. Are now costing up-wards of 170 plus? Okay I get that.....but

The material used now is cheaper and missing certain elements(AJ13 missing 3m) that made the "pop" when they first came out.

But props to the people who will still buy them though. Since Jordan can depend on your bank roll to buy expensive, yet inferior products. You get a

Thank the resellers for this..

I been trying to tell people for a good 2-3 years now that this was going to happen..

Jays were $140, Nike kept seeing people dropping $250 for them like it was nothing in the resale market. Only way for them to get a chunk of that profit is to keep raising the retail price..

Like dude said, I can see these being $200 by the end of the year

you still think jordans cost under $1 to make...on a $70 pair of sneakers...

Production labour $2.75

Materials 9.00

Rent, equipement 3.00

Supplierís operating profit 1.75

Duties 3.00

Shipping 0.50

Cost to Nike $20.00

Research and development 0.25 (for retros)

Promotion and adversiting 4.00

Sales, distribution, admin. 5.00

Nikeís operating profit 6.25

Cost retailer $35.50

Retailerís rent 9.00

Personnel 9.50

Other 7.00

Retailerís operating profit 9.00

Cost to consumer $70.00

so now were getting mad at companies trying to stretch their profit margin? Theres other options out there if you dont like it/cant afford it.

Demand increases quantity and price, however the supply relatively remains the same.

Nike is trying to get you to NOT buy the shoes, but we buy em anyway because we don't budget. Then we complain about it all throughout the year.

Smarten up. Buy the kicks you really want, and stop beasting for everything. Prices would actually drop, believe it or not.

I don't begrudge anyone stretching their profit margin. More power to them if they can and people still buy the product. But as others have mentioned, they have stretched the profit margin while concurrently and consistently producing an inferior product even in comparison to the same product of 2-3 years before.

And that break down is B.S. -

"Other"?

" R & D"? On a retro? Just copy the existing molds? There is no research or development to do.

"Advertising" We all know they don't even need to do this for this product line, a simple FB post would get the job done.

I'll give you they cost more than a $1 to make, but the bottom line is the prices are going up while he quality is going down - there is a breaking point.

The quality on the last set I bought just turned me off for good.

As long as the shoes keep selling out on the first day and have people lined up around the corner Nike won't do anything about the quality.
According to what?

The OG1's and the Retro 88's have far better quality than their lower priced counterparts.

Nike's trying to slow down the influx of sheep to no avail right now.

You don't seem like a dumb dude..

Where do you think they get the money to develop all these new technologies?

Everybody keeps looking at it like one line only pays for the specific line, like they're not bumping up prices of sh*t they don't have to R&D to pay for sh*t they do have to R&D

We all know that Nike is capable of making higher quality shoes at a higher price which is evident by the Retro 88s but they choose not to for the general releases because they have no incentive to.

Nike doesn't care who buys the shoes as long as they get bought.
I made a thread a while back comparing the prices between OG releases and their retros over the years.

You'd be paying $200-$250 for retros if they kept the quality the same based on inflation. Yeah, I don't think many of us are willing to do that.

The price increase over the last 4 years is $20 bucks. By the year 2015, all retros might be $200.
