50's buzz was much bigger. He was already getting some internet buzz, mixtape buzz, dissing Ja Rule who was huge at the time and getting signed to Eminem when Em was one of the biggest artists in the world. Oh then In Da Club dropped and it just so happened to be one of Dre's best beats ever.

50 probably had the hugest buzz ever for a debut album. IIRC, MTV had a special on him before the album even dropped and that's when MTV was music.

I was more into X's buzz. At the time, DMX and Juvenile had crazy buzz. The whole Ruff Ryders/Cash Money movement was the hardest sh*t out to us.

When 50 came, I didn't think he'd be as big of a star as he became. Everything about dude just seemed basic and image-driven. I think I was still into Em at the time but it didn't really cross over. 50 def captured more of a crossover appeal than X did somehow. He was able to take over for a while whereas X just temporarily became "that dude" to the hood.
Yeah that Cash Money Juvenile back that a.ss up.. 400 degreez buzz was crazy that summer

DMX buzz just as big

for all you young mothefu*kers, Woodstock was a festival mainly for the Rock and Roll fans that consisted of predominately white people who got progressively more sh*t faced and bat sh*t insane every year from its inception, They wallowed in pools of mud undoubtedly tainted with semen and other other bodily Fluids.

DMX sh*t was so hard and his presence was so big that they had to have him at Woodstock and the crowd was fu*kin with it heavy

another thing is while 50's stock in hip hop is somewhate split amongst fans, DMX,despite his gleaming flaws and personal demons, to this day is respected across the board and I think that goes beyond appreciation for his music. the underdogs of underdogs

Like dude said on the first page. 50 and it isn't even close.

DMX had a huge buzz but not like 50. Music wasn't being bootlegged as much like it was when 50 was dropping and X didn't have Em and Dre.

I'd still much rather listen to X than 50 though.

No one is saying X isn't more loved than 50 now. That's not the question. I got X in my top 10 prob so I have a huge amount of respect for him. But 50's buzz was just bigger and way more anticipated, at least on a global level.

I think many people voicing their opinion in this thread are too young to remember the DMX era, so they will vote 50...

matter of fact half of them probably missed both X and 50 and just vote 50 cuz hes more relevant now...

Cmon now. I remember the year D was sh*tting on the game. But 50's hype? I've NEVER seen a hype as big as 50 cent. kids would come into school bumping his mixtape, like floods of kids.
