50 vs DMX - Who had more hype/buzz around their debut?

50 had the mixtapes, but X had the big guest appearances...

Who had more buzz/hype around their debut?

Who had the bigger year, 50 in 02-03 or DMX in 97-98?

How you figure it isn't close, DMX had 2 #1 albums in '98.

This is a good point. GRODT was towards the beginning of the internet era, and toward the time white people was buying most of the hip hop records.

If It's Dark and Hell is hot dropped in the internet era i'd imagine the record sales would've seen a big boost.

First off, I was alive. I saw the sh*t.

Second, he said buzz around his debut... and 50 was the hottest property not just in hip-hop, but in pretty much the entire music business at that time. DMX was indeed hot in '98; I remember it clearly. But there are few acts, if any, that can top how hot 50 was prior to, and during Get Rich Or Die Trying.

Yeah but you have to take eras into account too though. DMX dropped when hip hop was still in the streets.

50 dropped and got an interview with Sway on MTV, and when hip hop was already turned out and commercialized.

Not even close 50 Cent, and I don't even like the n*gga. But I clearly remember EVERYBODY (white and black) at school had that sh*t the day after it came out, no bootlegs but the real sh*t. If you had any type of social life back then you knew that album by heart even if you didn't want to

Ok, so 50 had more hype around his album than X...

But X's album had a bigger IMPACT on hip hop and culture than GRODT.
