First of all, Andrei opted out, hoping to get a multi-year deal for similar or slightly less money. That type of deal wasn't offered by any team. So he didn't turn down $10 million for $3 million, cause no team offered him $10 million at the same time that he was offered $3 million. By the time he was offered $3 million, he no longer had the option to go and take the $10 million.

Second, Mikhail Prokhorov is worth $15 billion, a/k/a $15,000 million, so he wouldn't give a fuk about paying Andrei $10 million per and eating an extra $20-30 million in luxury tax. Meaning, there is no significant incentive for him to do anything dirty.
n*gga you ever heard of the HARD CAP? You can't go over like 98 mil or something like that. No way Nets could have offered him a similar deal to the Wolves if they wanted to.

You're right that he (Prokhorov) couldn't have just given Kirilenko $10 million and paid the tax, but you're wrong that the NBA has a hard cap. The NBA has a soft cap which allows teams to go above by using a half-dozen or more exceptions. That's the reason why the Nets' payroll is a projected $102+ million for 2013-14, so far, even though the cap is $58.679 million.

Anyway, my first point is still valid. Andrei didn't turn down $10 million for $3 million. By the time he accepted the $3 million, he had already opted out of the $10 million dollar deal. Meaning, the $10 million dollar deal was no longer on the table at the time that he accepted the $3 million dollar one. And no other team was offering him $10 million.

The only thing i don't understand is... how do you load up ur squad with this much talent, only to go get a rookie head coach who has never coached on any level?

I mean, i guess it doesn't matter.... if you can fire avery brooks as fast as they did last season... and fire P.J. for doing a good job, then you can prolly fire kidd mid way thru pre-season.

Now it all makes sense, Ray Allen and Mike Miller took money under the table to take less, officially, in Miami. Nobody said anything when they took less, but their owner isn't feared by other teams.

Silly n*ggas on here trying to argue with.me that the knicks could be the nets. As I said before and I'll say it again, nobody pockets are as deep as the Russian. 13.3 billion is what had been reported, knowing his business tactics and secrecy I'm sure he's worth more. His pockets are to deep for another team to go dollar for dollar, he literally does not care about the cap. You can tell.this nba team is like a minor expensive hobby for him. Real.boss.
Of course there are teams that can go dollar for dollar. It's just, is throwing money into such a vehicle worth it?

Lemme ask you something, do you even know who technically is the richest owner/ownership group in the league is?

I think most of the owners can go dollar for dollar with each other. They just dont care enough to do it. Some owners are willing to spend more than others to win. Wasn't Mark Cuban trying to get them to remove the salary cap a while ago? I think even without a salary cap, most teams wouldn't really change the way they operate. I think Cuban and Prokhorov would be the only 1s to go crazy trying to buy a championship.
