Is it as deep and versatile as 96 though? Bunch of Legends put out great CD's this year.. Had the Gangsta Rap Releases, Conscious sh*t, Punchline Cats, Hype Cats, pretty much something for everybody... A Few of the most talented cats made their debuts this year also

Didn't forget Ras Kass, thought I posted the Video Of Soul on Ice...... Guess Not... honest mistake Ras Is a top five emcee to me.... most people don't care for Mack 10, WC that much, but WSC was a short but classic CD... forgot that came out in 96

figured I missed a few, just shows how deep this year was.....

- Don't even trip homie....there was SO much good rap music that year that it goes without saying somebody might have been left out.... with what you listed alone...cats should be able to recognize how a lot of us got spoiled with expecting great album after great album back in the day...I stayed at Camelot Records and Sam Goody spending bread on all of this stuff!

last part is on point, sh*t used to be exciting to just randomly show up at the store and browse to find a couple quality CD'S......sometimes in school, I'd call the Mall to see if certain CD's came in before walking/ driving the bike to that bi*ch.... It seemed like every Tuesday though, some sh*t would hit the stores that would get your attention....

First CD I ever got was All eyez on me when I was 6 years old. My aunt, who was 17 bought it for me on my birthday. And that was when I fell in love with hip hop. Been on ever since

GREAT year for hip hop, so many memories.

A few more honorable mentions:

Gangsta Blac - Can it Be?
Silkk - The Shocker
Ol Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version
MC Eight - death Threatz
Kane & Abel - The 7 Sins
Playa Fly - Fly sh*t
Kingpin Skinny Pimp - King of Da Playaz Ball

(Say what you will about No Limit, those are two of their strongest albums.)

Yup 1996 to me is the peak of hip hop, with the perfect mix of mainstream, purity and originality

after 96 it was never the same again

great point fam... I remember us around the pool table, just rotating CD's that certain cats wanted to hear more.... I was pumped up the geto boys got back together and would wear that cd out.... other boy was loving the tribe called quest/ de la soul sh*t more.... we both fu*ked with the ras kass/ chino xl sh*t off appreciating lyrics more... Had the busta rhymes/ foxy brown on rotation A LITTLE when the bi*ches were around lol.... THe casual just getting into rap cats loved the lost boyz/ mobb deep sh*t....... wasn't any nas/jay z stans at that pont.... the cats that fu*ked with Illmatic, fu*ked with a ton of the other sh*t that came out then....cats had love for reasonable doubt, but it was just part of another great cd released at that point....

but yeah fam, their was something for everybody at that time... the sh*t I will always remember at that time....... could talk about this sh*t for hours lol

yeah, I was never a huge fan of NO Limit tbh.... but a ton of cats loved that silk the shocker album.... I respect their opinion, cause they weren't huge fans after that drop.... but yeah not so much about what CD's you like, gotta appreciate the versatility that was offered to the public.... everybody won at the end of the day that liked rap....

props for bringing up other cd's released that year.... everybody loves their own stuff... .wasn't my top releases, just tried to show how deep this year was... And I missed the death threatz CD lol, some nice tracks on their.... sure I missed some more lol.....
