Kevin Garnett: Garnett Rule - goaltending shots on dead plays; while not illegal, people may argue it affects the game by both being annoying, and not allowing players to practice their stroke or gain confidence during dead plays.

Wasn't Shaq the reason we have a defensive 3 in the key now?
Yep, I was just thinking about that. Instituted in 2001, right in Shaq's heyday.

I thought Iverson was the reason the NBA went to a zone... A zone is designed to stop penetration and force outside shots ... It does nothing against a post up player with the defensive 3 second rule in place... You can't just have a defender in the lane at all times to prevent the inside pass... Didn't they put the rule in the year after Iverson won MVP???
I find it kind of sad they would do the boy AI like that. Personally, I think management didn't care for AI having success in Jordan/Kobe's day. AI was one of the most street n*ggas in sports history, similar to another Tidewater star. Vick did himself in with all of that dogf!ghting BS, and still was basically rewarded $100 mill upon release. All AI did (as far as I know) was work the man's nerves. I'm not going to say AI was held down, but no higher ups cared if he played, lived or died. He made the league millions, and his crossover sold out arenas. In wrestling terms, I never understood why AI never got the same "push" everyone else did. Even if he was a "problem".

What about nobody being allowed to leave the bench during an altercation... or for any reason i guess.

Started with the Knicks

No excessive hanging on the rim or pulling yourself up using the rim

Started with Shawn Kemp

No lights allowed in your shoes

I don't remember that

They mean upright. Rondo wore his logo upside down. Melo wears his upright, just to the back

Stephen curry travels also, he does a high dribble with a few quick steps in between followed by two huge steps . I can see a rule coming for that soon.
A lot of PGs still do the high dribble, I watch the games like they look like they damn near carry the ball all the way down the court

wtf does this mean?
It basically goes hand in hand with illegal defense in the NBA.

What many teams used to do was just spread the floor out (since you couldn't really do a "proper" double-team in the NBA back then due to illegal defense rules), and isolate a star player to play 1 on 1 all game.

So basically the rule of thumb was that as a defender you had to stay an arm's length away from your defender or fully commit to a double-team or trap or else it's illegal defense... So it made it much easier for teams with star players to just play isolation basketball for the entirety of the game and take advantage of a weak defender.

So off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure they instituted an illegal offense rule to prevent stacking offensive players to mess with the floor space, then they scrapped it altogether and just started to allow zone defenses to counter the isolation game.

Kobe wearing tights were banned after it was deemed a fashion statement

Mike and his gold chain (don't know what happened with that)

Increased court security due to Ron artest running into the stands

1 ref on standby in case a ref gets injured
Shaq fell into a ref and couldn't run full speed

Tim Duncan got Joey Crawford for calling laughing technical on the bench

Scottie pippen blood rule , use to put arm bands on cuts on hands . Bleed must be stopped not covered up

Freethrow line put back further and u can't jump ( wilt use to run and jump from the freethrow line and lay it up) smh!!!

There's alot more.

This just proves why those n*ggas back in the 50's 60's 70's can't be compared to guys today.

Game wasn't even the same

Wait.. You're a Texans and a Spurs fan?! That has bandwagon written all over that sh*t, b..
But what if he's from San Antonio? It'd make sense to be a Spur... And then San Antonio is closer to Houston (3 Hrs) than it is to Dallas (4 hrs). Anywhere in Central Texas would definitely lead to a Spurs affiliation and then picking between the Cowboys and the Texans/Oilers

And didn't they implement a "whine" rule because of Sheed too? (Not just the number of Techs... But ramped up for people that complained too?)

they never changed the pump fake for a foul rule. they changed the rip through, which wade never really used anyway, to a blocking foul rather than shooting foul (but they still give durant the free throws anyway). you're shooting motion is allowed to carry you forward into a defender, but not backwards or to the side in order to draw contact. i've seen a few egregious cases even called an offensive foul, but rarely. wade says he learned it from cassell. pierce also helped put that move on the map.
