Yeah, that's why I don't get the Melo talk from. They all discussed it ahead of time but when it came time for all of them to sign their extensions everybody else went short term extension and he went long term extension. At that time I thought it was a little weird because I thought they did want the three of them together. I do remember hearing some rumblings back then that he was worried he may have to play more four if he teamed up with Lebron and he wasn't a big fan of that.
The crazy part is that's what he has done a ton of with the Knicks.
Ding, ding, ding.
Him playing the four was ONE of the reasons in which he didn't sign that extension. Gotta remember Melo had a circle of people in his ear, same circle of people that he's cut off in recent years.
I love Mel but he's been pretty stubborn for a while now. He wanted to have his cake and eat it, as well as have insurances that if he teamed up with Wade & Bron the paperwork would be straight, the league office wouldn't be hounding them, not to mention they had to get location right.
From what I was told Bron wanted Mel & Wade in Cleveland but Melo flopped, same as Wade. I guarantee Will (Brooklyn Lost) knows more on the situation but yea playing at the four was one of his concerns. He actually was still against it leading up to this season but there are guys in the Knicks FO that saw Melo plays his best statistically at the four so Woodson played good soldier and went with it.
