It's an easy way to end the conversation.
But really, non-racist white people believe its all behind us, and everybody is free now, so why bring up old sh*t?
It's always funny seeing people get uncomfortable about this subject.
The only people that get uncomfortable talking about this issued is really white people. They don't want to face or hear about their demons because let's be honest, it's never a good look to know that your a descendant of a bunch of s3xist ego maniac lazy murderous raping racists that k!lled, exploited and enslave an entire race(s) for their own greed. That's why the topic is a problem, because history looks pretty awful on them, no matter how much they want to keep it on the hush hush. Just look at Arizona and how the school system has banned the studies of Mexican American history in public schools. Their excuse is they don't want to "ignite white resentment" but in reality, they just don't want their students to know how fu*k up their ancestors treated this group of people as well. Also, look at how innocent they tried to portray Columbus in history books, but always skip the part that he was a torturous blood thirsty tyrant that literally was responsible for the murders or annihilation of thousands of slaves and different tribes in the Caribbean because he considered them as "savages" and not human beings.
That's why is a problem... White people just don't like to hear how their sh*t stinks.
