Jayz and a whole bunch of NY rappers (minus nas and wu) were sitting on the sidelines nearing 30 saying "damn i'm gonna be a failure"

BIG suddenly dies, and the vulture took his style, his lines and his selling point.

BIG over shadowed every NY solo rapper = fact

jay-z fans needa accept that jigga was hawaiian sophie before them n*ggas died, and he woulda stayed that way. jay-z became the eastcoast savior after they died hard knoc came out like a yr after and while ppl liked jay-z "its alright" wasnt poppin and "can i get a" was bubblin but it wasnt what HKL became and its prolly the only song he shouted out biggie on out of them 3.

When BIG died, Jay started poppin, he took on BIGs persona, only difference was he wasn't fat, but he mos def was ugly "girls use to call me ugly"

Even after he took BIGs style, image and lines, he still wasn't considered a goat, you had a handful of other rappers who were bigger than him, one by one they all fell off, some to drugs, some to jail, others cudnt cope with the pressure and they retired..Jay married Bey and kept himself relevant bandwagon jumping from one artist to the next.

BIG relied on his talent to get him where he got and he was the man, he was never second fiddle, his wife was never more famous than him, he let the music talk...Thus someone like Jay wud never had the chance to position himself had BIGs lane not been left empty.

So many movements and doors wee opened after Pac and BIG died, Def Jam's Lyor Cohen said his label were trying to find rappers who reminded them of Pac, because after Pac died a lane was open for that typa rapper, enter Ja Rule and DMX

Master P was telling all his rappers to rap like Pac

Puff was trying to remake BIG with Shyne and Ma$e

Jay was running around doing his best BIG impersonation

I always found it funny how folks consider Pac and BIG the gatekeepers of hip hop. As if BIG was GUARANTEED success; he dropped 2 classic and could've EASILY followed up with 4-6 mediocre and sub-par albums. Same for Pac; could've easily been another washed up has-been by 2013. It's all speculation.

Pac nor BIG wouldn't have stopped anyone from making it into the game. If you're dope, you're dope. If you're not, you're not. And this has nothing to do with Jay in particular, it applies to every artist.

"Real" hip hop heads love overrating dead rappers. Pac and BIG are legends, but neither of them were/are Gods.

And this video coming from a dude who changed his name after 20 years in the game, as a last grasp for relevancy, is pure irony.

Dudes talking about Sales

Fact is Pac and BIG were outselling Jay when they were alive, dudes forget Jay been in the game since 1989 and he didn't pop until after he swag jacked BIG.

Jay has no excuse, he was longer in the game than BIG and Pac....

BIG gave him a style, a gimmick, a flow, and a lifestyle to rap about.

BIG's lane was taken by Jay, Shyne, Ma$e and a few others, then after that he went and jumped on one bandwagon after the next as well as his wifes fame..

BIG had Jayz lane covered that's a fact, it took BIG to die for Jay to blow

Snoop been in the game to long and done seen it all and he speaking as an OG, certain bx nerds just cant handle the truth
And this is what these n*ggas fail to realize wasn't nobody outside of NYC checking for Jay-Z like that in 96-97 he didn't blow until '98 and by then the rap game was wide open. In '96 Jay & Dame was struggling or barely getting radio play. And IMHO, I definitely agree with Snoop that if Pac/Big were around today a lot of these n*ggas would not even be in the game and Jay would have not been as big as he is now. Really if you ask me Jay made his career off some of BIG's catalog.
