It's all about the profit margins. Just like any other show on TV, you make money by selling time slots to advertisers. The more viewers you have, the higher the price you can charge. You can't get people to watch your show just by reporting the plain facts that they can read in 140 characters or less. That's why Fox News has consistently been #1 in ratings for the past years. They're so outrageous that people want to watch them. It's about entertainment now, not credibility and journalism.
