If David Beckham came back 100% from a torn Achilles, so can Kobe Bryant

image

"In Milan's next game, against ChievoVerona, Beckham suffered a torn left Achilles tendon,[118] causing him to miss the World Cup as well as the MLS season due to the injury, which took him out of action for the next five months. Doctor Sakari Orava performed surgery on Beckham's tendon in Turku, Finland, on 15 March 2010.[119] After the operation, Orava affirmed that "it went quite fine. The prognosis is he needs a rehabilitation for the next few months, and the plaster cast is the next six to eight weeks. I would say that [it will be] maybe four months before he's running, but six months before he's jumping and kicking."[120]

Everybody heals differently. Billups tore his sh*t and aint been right since. Dominique Wilkins tore his at 31 and wasn't quite the same but was still a good player. Terrell Suggs tore his and came back good.

Who knows what will happen with Kobe but I doubt we have seen the last of him.

I think so. He didn't say he felt it curl up the way Beckham's did (Beckham's was a complete tear). Kobe will be back next season. Multi million dollar athelete, one of the most famous on the planet with all the resources, not to mention his DRIVE and work ethic... he'll be back. Maybe not this season () but for sure next.

Maybe not now, but back then he was. I was following AC Milan at the time. Don't forget football (soccer) is NON-STOP action. No timeouts or free throws to sit down/rest on. Yeah, everyone heals differently, but I'm sure with the Lakers and Kobe's resources (and drive) he'll be back soon 100%

Effectively career ending. Next year was, in his own words, going to be it. Now he may not be healthy for next year. I don't like Kobe, but this would be a sh*tty way for him to go out.

Beckham wasn't playing on even close to as high a level as Kobe. It's one thing about coming back, another is to be as good as you were before the injury. Terrell Suggs came back early, but it took him another month and a half to get back into shape, and he was still a shell of his former self, despite having won DPOY the year before.

I'm pretty sure this was a complete tear, and that it'll take 8-12 months before we see Kobe on the court again.

And even though Kobe said he's only playing for a year or two more after this season, he's the type to feel like this season and probably half of the next were robbed from him. He'll come back strong. Who knows whether he's got enough to play at a top 5 level ever again, but I wouldn't doubt his willpower.

This could be his bless in the sky. Kobe hasn't had a summer without basketball in a while so he gets to recuperate and rest which would be good for him. It will allow his teammates to earn supreme confidence on the biggest stage showing they can win without him. Combine all that next year and they could be a much better team.

LMFAO what a terrible analogy. Beckham had just finished a season from the MLS and was on loan at Milan for another 2-3 months, including playing in the Champions League (top level club International tournament). Football (I won't even call it Soccer for any American), a full contact sport, that requires athletes to run 90mins PER MATCH, with 45 min halves and only 15min rest, and you think Kobe puts in as much work as footballers?

As much as I would love to respect Basketball and I sure think they def put in hard hard work, not even closely comparable sir!

If this is what k!lls careers in Basketball or becomes this huge calamity, you guys should see the injuries footballers get, playing with dislocated shoulders (Frans Beckenbauer), broken legs (Djibril Cisse), or even the infamous Roy Keane injury. Torn achilles heels (and usually ligaments that hold joints together) used to be pretty common (that's why bans can result from tackles from behind now).

With all due respect ppl r diff, Kobe could make a quick comeback, with specialists he could be in tip top shape again, Ronaldo came back from bad knees and became a World Cup top goal scorer, age is Kobe's worst enemy at this point, not the extent of the injury
