There's nothing wrong with not getting this. Unless you continue to take math/chemistry/physics or some such in university, you don't do algebra ever after high school (with the exception of very simple algebra, possibly, but even then). I looked at the equation and couldn't remember the order you're supposed to do these things in (BEDMAS) until I looked at one of the first posts. Also, it's made more difficult by the fact that the necessary brackets are purposely left out.
What you need to be able to do as a life skill is multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction in your head. You also need to be able to figure out percentages and such in your head (which is still just multiplication or division). Those are good life skills. 74+3 X0+1= 74+0+1= 74+1= 73=4 The simple way! From left to right with the addition and subtraction 74+3 X0+1= 74+0+1= 3+0+1= 3+1=4 The correct way The dumb people ignored the negative sign within the equation all together.

honestly fu*k all the bullsh*t....unless you are into rocket science or sh*t that these equations call for why do you need to know.....i mean if you a cook do you really need to know algerba?
i know you need to know fraction equations but algebra? foh..........

It could be: 7 4 + (3 x 0) + 1 = 4 Or: 7 (4 + (3 x 0) + 1) = 5 Or: 7(4 + (3 x 0) + 1) = 21 sh*t it could even be: 7(4 + 3) x (0 + 1), or any number or combinations, really. It's deliberately confusing because the person who wrote it is a math nerd who was trying to get one over on people, not realizing that, actually, no one needs this skill except a few select people.

man this is really sad but the problem is 7 4 + 3 x 0+ 1=?
(P)lease (e)xcuse (m)y (d)ear (a)unt (s)ally.....so P parenthesis E exponents M multiply D divide A add S subtract.....so 7 4 + (3 x 0) + 1=? P none E none M multiply 1st: 7 4 + (3 x 0) + 1 = 7 4 + 0 + 1 D none A add 2nd: 7 4 + 0 + 1 = 7 5 S subtraction last : 7 5 = 2......dumbass if you type it on any calculator, the calculator will do it from left to right. calculators don't make mistakes on dumb fools using calculators make mistakes. i advise a lot of you that aren't in school to go to Barnes and Noble and find algebra for dummies.....gone
