4. PEMDAS is the method, but the people getting 2 are forgetting that mutiplication/division and addition/subtraction are treated equally, so you work from left to right after doing 3x0. I had the easiest time in school doing Algebra, but when it came to Geometry...

It's MATH retard. There's no such thing as "to me." It's called the UNIVERSAL language because it's not subjective

I commend you for at least trying this problem because most dudes straight ignored it. But you're wrong.

2(x + y) = 2x + 2y

The operation looks like:

6 % 2(1+2) = ?

6 % [2(1) + 2(2)] =

6 % (2+4) =

6 / 6 =

1
I got 1 as well if the order of operations is used properly you do the work the parenthesis, multiply it times 2, when divide into 6... That's 1.

Tell me in right though!

I use to think I'm the sh*t on math until I took trig in college. Trig is basically everything that I hate in geometry for the whole semister.

I commend you for putting effort into trying to correct me, but you're wrong
1) You added brackets, which were not in the original equation. It changes the 2(1+2) to a single term, when it is not written as such. You're taking away a 6 % 2, when that should be done before 2(1+2).

As I said, It is written in an ambiguous way, and someone may interpret the 6 as the numerator and the 2(1+2) as a single term in the denominator. However, we can't a.ssume that.

The ONLY thing we can a.ssume is that a number next to parentheses is multiplication. So it's 6 % 2 x (1+2). The answer is 9.

2) Secondly, there's no reason to use the distributive property when you have no unknown variable to solve for. Distributive property is used to SIMPLIFY an equation, such as taking 2(x+2) and changing it to 2x + 4. We aren't solving for X, so there's no reason to bother with that when the ORDER OF OPERATIONS with the MATHEMATICS already provides us with the SIMPLEST method. And as you know, in math you are to use the simplest method. Proof? When x = 1; 2x + 4 and 2(3) both equal 6. LOL

So to summarize again, the answer is 9, however a set of brackets or an additional x before the parenthesis would make things clearer.

Simply go on YouTube or any of the million pages on this exact question, and you will see every authority says what I just said.

No.

You're making things far more difficult than they need to be. It's the order of operations again. Parentheses first, 1+2=3.

Since you're going from left to right you do the division first. There's no need to distribute. That's how you get 9.

You're not

You don't have to multiply before you divide. They are equal in the order of operations, so you go left to right.

That's the great thing about math. It's not open for interpretation. You're either right or not.

It's 4..

You multiply 3*0 which is 0, so you started out good.. After that, you do . You don't do all the addition and then all of the subtraction, so..

7-4+1 = 4
the addition comes first that's why ya'll getting this wrong

dont forget u do all adding before any subtraction
i only put the parenthesis (not sure if i spelled that right) around what step im on not that they are actually there in the problem but u do in this u go p.e.m.d.a.s and aint no p.e. skip to m do the lil multi then go to addition from left to right in this problem it doesnt matter but others it might but then u do subtraction last .... the only correct answer is 2 I think lol
i can honestly say i didnt know a/s where the same or m/d so does that mdas make sence is pe the same can u do exponents before perenthesis thats what im not understand .....yup i asked now back to the ignorance ....... i can count my money add and sub a check book doesnt need order of operation lol dte an rent phone bills car ins car note that sh*t only subtracts from my checks lol

People are really arguing the answer isn't 4?

Smarten up ninjas!!!

And why are people making parenthesis when there are none.

Parenthesis then exponents then multiplication/division and lastly addition/subtraction. That's like middle school math fam. Y'all need to log off and hit them books!!!

These kinds of equations and people getting them wrong have been all over the internet for a couple years now..

The answer is 4.. however, the question is phrased incorrectly. The correct phrasing would include the use of proper "brackets" or parentheses.

Assuming there are parentheses where there should be.. it would go (in order):

7 - 4 + (3 x 0) + 1 =
7 - 4 + (0) + 1 =
3 + 0 + 1 =
3 + 1 = 4

Since there aren't parentheses though, it would also be appropriate to solve from left to right.

So technically 2 was right
