I never said algebra is something you will use on a day-to-day basis. I simply said it was the only universal language that exists in the Universe. One plus one will always equal two. That is why it is good to know.
Right, and most everyone knows that one plus one equals two; or that 12 times 12 equals 144; or that 1.x times a price will give you the price plus x% added on. These are useful and can be used across borders, I agree. Algebra is very rarely used by anyone, and isn't necessary for using the universality of math. You will never see the equation in this thread in real life, at least not presented the way it was.
This is simply math nerds trying to feel superior for no reason. It's like if I made a topic about political economy (something actually much more relevant to daily life than algebra, but still not on many people's minds most of the time) and just sh*t on people for not knowing the inherent logic of capitalism or socialism or some such. It's bullsh*t, I don't accept this kind of elitist sh*t at all (and so we're clear, this is coming from a university graduate who just got into grad school on a full scholarship, so I'm not a dummy trying to say fu*k all the smart people. Just the elitist as*holes).
