Yes, Jay Z, in order to rep NBA players, must get rid of his Nets share, but he's open to doing that.
Oh sh*t...

Hov wasn't playing when he said on to the next one

He's just like any other businessman. Get the hottest product, put life into, pump it up, then toss it aside and move on to the next venture.

That cold-blood

Robinson Cano hires Jay-Z

New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who is in the final season of a $57 million contract, has left agent Scott Boras to sign with a company founded by Jay-Z.

SportsNation: Yankees' Outlook?
The Yankees didn't look good in an Opening Day loss to the Red Sox. Will they finish the year below .500?
• Vote!

Roc Nation, an entertainment company founded by Shawn Carter, also known as Jay-Z, announced Tuesday that it is getting into the sports representation business through a partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA). This arm of CAA will be known as Roc Nation Sports, which simultaneously announced that its first sports client is Cano.

"At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field," Cano said in a statement. "I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates."

It remains to be seen whether this alters the trajectory of Cano's talks with the Yankees, who have been trying to re-sign him. The Yankees made an offer to Cano earlier this winter, in dealing with Boras, but hadn't gained any traction in their talks, and when Boras clients get this close to free agency, they typically play out their contracts and test the market.

It's not as if the team negotiating for Cano is inexperienced, like the much-hyped partnership between Ricky Williams and rapper Master P's No Limit Sports, which resulted in one of the worst contracts in sports history. Cano will be represented by CAA Sports baseball group, which says it has negotiated $1.1 billion worth of deals, including four contracts that exceeded $100 million, in the last two years alone.

Sources say Jay-Z himself is planning to be a certified agent, first in baseball and eventually in basketball and football. In order to represent clients in basketball, he would have to give up his small share of the Brooklyn Nets.

Jay-Z has always had a love for sports, but his passion grew through the Nets ownership and his 40/40 high-end sports bar in New York, which over the last nine years has become a hang out for athletes.

The initial launch is with CAA, but Roc Nation Sports will be its own company. Roc Nation currently represents Rihanna, Shakira and Timbaland, among others.

Buster Olney is a senior MLB writer for ESPN The Magazine. Darren Rovell covers sports business for ESPN.

Its a shame many people refuse to read in between the lines
This move further confirms there was never a legit friendship/partnership between Jay & the real owners of the Nets. He was nothing more than a pawn used to get that arena built in Brooklyn

And in regards to Cano's situation

How many times must it be said Hov's not a businessman....he's a Business man

Both sides got equal benefits from this.

So you Didn't know that?! Javon come on. I even broke it down a few times for people on here. The Nets coming to Brooklyn was part of a Much larger real estate deal that could only happen via Eminent Domain

Also using Bleacher Report as a credible source? Did you do research papers off of WikiAnswers too ya bish .

Where does Lebron come in any of this?

Jay was "the face" of the Nets coming to Brooklyn, he promoted his 40/40 club being there, he promoted the Barclays Center as well as headlining a couple shows there. Nets got profit from that, Jay got profit.

Win/win

On to the next.

Of course I knew
This move just confirms it
And its hilarious that people are overlooking that fact that not even before the season ends Jay is already bailing on a team he claimed he was "all in for" in regards to the future objective/goals of the franchise.

We're overlooking it because Jay already got everything he's going to get from the Nets, design consultant credits, 40/40 franchise, several headlining shows, a franchise in Brooklyn that will be tied to Jay-Z forever... he doesn't even own a significant part of the team... who cares!

it would be a bigger deal if Prok sold the team.
