you guys can say what you want, but if none of you are understanding that this is a pay for play thing than all your comments of who should have or shouldn't have been on there mean nothing
i know from personal experience, the conversation goes like this "we're doing the freshman list again this year, what's your budget?"..... each person gets a different price, and i'm sure people like q and ab probably didn't have to put up bread because they make the list look good for xxl, but if you're wondering why certain people are on and others aren't, it's just a matter of who wants to spend money on the list and who doesn't.... they mask it by saying you're "buying advertising" so at some point all of those people will have ads fun throughout the mag over the next year or so, and thats the reason why.
it's not a list based on merit, hasn't been for a couple of years now, it wasn't always pay for play, but that's what it has become, and they shamelessly ask for the money too, really ugly way to do business and trick people into believing the validity of the list
True, it's hard to compete with people backed by major labels when it comes to promoting yourself.
I'm not sure how many people on the list are on majors, but there are a handful of indy acts that aren't on the list.
Props to all the independent acts that made the list without a label paying their way
