When Dmx and Jay z were in competition from 98 to 2000, Dmx was k!lling that n*gga all across the boards. It wasn't until Dmx started doing them exit wound movies and slacking on his rap sh-t that Jay z was really looked at as number 1. It's not like Hov rose up, X just fell off, and Jay stayed afloat. But if Dmx would have stayed on top of his game, Jay wouldn't be talked about as much, and Dmx would likely been looked at as the Goat. Not that it matters, I'm just a x fan, and think this generation doesn't really give him the respect he deserves. If you got Biggie in your top 10, I think Dmx should be right up there somewhere

FACTS

DMX nuked the music industry. Dude single handedly put an end to the Shiny Suit Era at its height, and made everything grimey as hell.

Imagine if a emcee came through right now and said "this hippie emo rap ish is wack, Im the NEW sh*t", and everybody just fell in line b/c he was that official OFF ONE ALBUM. THAT was DMX in 98.

I remember right before his album dropped, me and my brother HAPPENED to catch an episode of that Night At The Apollo show and they had LL performing 4,3,2,1 (fu*kING CLASSIC) and everybody was on the stage. DMX had by far the biggest reaction even over Method Man who was one of my favorites at the time. I wish that sh*t was available on YouTube.

Point is, he signaled a change that took place and you could legitimately see it happen in real time. It was INSANE.

X in his prime had Jay-Z looking over his shoulder. Regardless to how many units he sold, who opened on tours, who was more on top, point blank Jay and X were on songs together, toured together, they were close to each other in popularity, but Jay was the one who was

X was the one who was dumbing out making hardcore into commercial Jay was the one who was crossing over to stay afloat.

Not to mention people talk about Jay-Z vs 2Pac. But what I REALLY would have payed to see is DMX vs 2Pac if he were still doing it in 98 coming up off his own label with Big Daddy Kane on roster.
