Lets be honest as an overall artist with creativity, lyrical skill, longevity, cultural relevance, influence and relevance at the age of 40+ he's the greatest NYC artist of all time. BIG is that dude but he died at an extremely young age and only blessed us with 2 classic albums. Jay is 15+ years in and has a least 2 classic albums, multiple very solid albums, classic verses, potent 1-liners and let the public know the hip hop is a sustainable, respectable, relevant genre that can be for all ages from 16 to 50.
Smart man right here..

n*ggas gotta understand I'm a huge BIG fan.. Ready to Die is one of my favorite albums of all time in ANY genre..

And I understand that BIG was probably cut down before he could reach his full potential..

BUT on the other side, I also understand that he could have fallen off too..

It's disingenuous to a.ssume that he would have been the greatest, because we will NEVER know.

It would be like if they made a sports list and had Len Bias as the Greatest of All Time, because he COULD HAVE been that.

Or if they started ranking Drazen Petrović ahead of Magic Johnson because of those 2 incredible seasons he had playing PG in NJ before he died in that car crash

The fact is there are too many "woulda shoulda coulda" opinions when it comes to BIG and Pac

^ just cuz ur fav rapper fell off

doesnt mean BIG wud have fallen off

fact is BIG dropped two classics in a row, fu*k it 3 classics cuz LAD was a double

he was only 24 years old, and yet to fully branch out with his creativity

he had the image and persona, the wit and lyrical brain as well as the hit making gift to cary on dropping classics untill he got bored..

BIGs had that commercial appeal as well as street appeal, he didnt need to make a song like Annie to get himself poppin or remake 2pac songs to keep relvant, he cud spit that raw gutter sh*t and everyone copped his albums, he cud spit the club sh*t and everyone copped his singles.

I'll entertain you for argument sake...

When I was coming up, I was a HUGE Eminem fan.. If you had asked me in 2002 after he dropped SSLP MMLP and TES back to back if I ever thought he would fall off (Im talking quality of music, not sales)... I would have looked at you like you was smoking that good.. But it happened

Same with Weezy between Tha Carter, Carter II, Dedication I and II, Mayor of the South etc.. I thought that n*gga was on the way to GOAT status, if he could keep it up.

It's not uncommon for an artist to go on an incredible run and then turn into garbage. We've seen it before..

But like I said before with BIG, we will never know.. Only 2 albums (great albums though) but there's just no certainty in those things..

I don't believe in the "benefit of the doubt"

AND Jay-z didn't fall off?? LOLOLOLOLOL

Some people didn't hear reasonable doubt. Yes, he has been good with watered down music, but you cant tell me Jay is just as good lyrically back in 96.....LOLOLOLOL

All he did was use people to stay on top.....Jay is great but, He is not the greatest.

Then again all this sh*t is subjective. So everyone is going to vote for their favs anyways...SO fu*kK ITT!

Sometimes I Just like to argue doe LOLOLOL

Ur measuring BIG by other rappers standards, just stop.

Just cuz Ja Rule,50, Em and Weezy fell off doesnt mean BIG wud have fallen off.

BIG was a originator, at such a young age he was ahead of all these other rappers with his commercial appeal as well as lyrical appeal

Em was damn near 30 when he started poppin, Jay was near 30 when he started poppin,

Weezy was never on BIGs level, lets just stop that sh*t.

BIG was special, he just had the spark, i have only seen one other rapper with that kind of appeal and he is also dead.

All these other rappers that came after have copied the blueprint, the style, and the concepts.

Nas is my favorite rapper from NY, but BIG was the one with the overall appeal.

yooo just checked the listtttttt.... wtf they have Rick at 49? WTF? 49??????? Ghost at 32??? Rakim at 15???? Puffy over any of these guys??? I know Its hard to make a 50 best new york hip-hop artist list... buttttttt you cant have Slick Rick at the Bottom behind Nicky, Jadakiss, Salt and Peppa or the fu*kin sugar hill gang...

I dont care what u fu*kin think... Rick The Ruler, Rakim, Kane should always be in the top 10 when its a NY hip-hop List, even if u put them 8,9 and 10.
