then u wasn´t paying attention between 02-05

When Fif was becoming a star while the world was watching ,every label started looking for the next rapper

Grafh was part of a bidding war and ended on Sony...Autografh received a few great reviews but it never came out .Rappers like Joe budden flopped (meaning sold less then expected) and labels stopped investing in new rappers ( see red cafe)
I don't think you're paying attention.

The topic is "mixtape stars" and you're talking about a bidding war and a shelved album.

That's because East coast mixtape rappers don't have the game west coast rappers do. They release mixtapes, West Coasters release albums independently. So you're right, but it still makes NY look worse.
So to sum it up: the mixtape game was coined by the east coast, that's why the list is mainly east coast/NY artists.

F-ck yes to both of these. Both of 'em were so dope when they first came out. Damn shame.

All east coast rappers. 6 NY rappers
Sad but so true

 Rockstar718 said:
of course, when mixtapes we're buzzin it was all about the east coast, that was the last time we really held the throne, then the south came along with snap music and the age of one hit wonders and gimmick rappers came about (not the souths fault, we got plenty of gimmicks up here also)

j hood was that dude, i still quote that bullet proof hoodies freestyle

graph never wanted to be an industry bi*ch, he put on a lot of dudes from queens and give n*ggas job working at black hand, taught a lot of young artists a lot about music and what it can do, he made more of a difference then the rest of this list by far
Bold = Yup this is true

one thing during this time KANYE WEST was coming up and he is different. All these east coast rappers all sound the same and rapped about the same sh*t over and over again. Kanye was different, speaking to college kids about dropping out of college, getting out your dreams, basic jobs (SPACESHIP) and other stuff. These dudes just kept doing the same old drug sell and fu*k everyone up sh*t.

I have never heard of Graph

Peedi Crack, J hood, Jae Millz, Jr Writer, was all over my high school days (J HOOD)

Jae Millz is annoying in my opinion

papoose, he came out and I did like dude a lot but then I just stopped carring

From 2009 - 2011 it seem to me it was about 3 people DRAKE, WIZ, AND MEEK.
Drake - something totatlly different and sounded like bits and pieces of everyone

Wiz - I MISS THOSE EARLY FUN DAYS (he was just a cool dude on his max b snoop dogg ish)

Meek Mill - HE was bringing the hood rap back because it was missing (all that dancing and sh*t)

Other people on that mixtape circut is MAX B (I did not like dude at the time but THAT WAVE GANG GREEN )

Stack Bundles - RIP

{i had another person on my mind but I totally forgot}

Add Jo Jo Pellegrino to that list, dude came out with like 2 mixtapes if i can recall that yall probably never heard of, my mans was his A&R guy, he went to various record labels and they all turned him down. he wasnt a bad mc either. ah well.
JoJo actually wasn't bad, dude did borrow a lot of lines though.

I always liked his verse on the OG version of 50's "fu*k You"

Fashawn just dropped 2 dope projects in 2012.

Side note I knew my n*gga j-hood was gonna be on there... In HS that n*gga was the illest.
What HITS did he drop. What HITS??? how did his downloads compare to that of rick ross, 2chainz, wiz, meek etc.? How many females do u kno who can sing along to at least 4 of his songs? I get tired of people tryna put underground classic stamps on things dealing with MAINSTREAM!! Just face the fact that fashawns ain't on.
