I rocked Reasonable Doubt but he didn't really get big in the south until Big Pimpin. I would have to credit Timbo for really introducing the south to Jay-Z.

I kind of agree with JD. I am from the South and Jay didn't get popular until 1998 in the South. I would say it was:

Money Ain't A Thang
Ha (Remix)

that did it.

Yeah he might have been on JD`s track first but that Ha remix opened the door for Jay Z in the South , then Big Pimpin solidified Jay with the streets by him getting UGK on the track!

In the South we knew who Jay-Z was, but we weren't jamming him like that. It took Volume 2 for everybody to start jamming him. After Big Pimpin came out, sh*t was a wrap.
This is accurate...I remember jamming DMX before Jay.

If "Money Aint a Thang" wasn't the first time I heard Jay, then I would say "Lobster and shrimp" on that Timbaland cd. But yall gotta be crazy to think "Big Pimpin" was better than "Money Aint a Thang."

if anything... Jay-Z only blew up BIGGER in the South after "Big Pimpin" b/c Jay had already made a name for himself and was collaboratin with legends from the south that no one expected a collab from. But JD, Master P, Juvie, and MTV helped put Jay on in the South before that record though...

It was all hype. I remember his giant cardboard ads up in the music stores and everything. P marketed him like he was the next big thing in music too. He put him on songs like Ghetto is Tryna k!ll Me, Playas from the South, Ice Cream Man, etc.

I guess Jay really didn't get play like that other than singles. Nas, Biggie, Busta, and prolly Wu Tang got more play in the South.

nah , silkk was becomin one of the next superstars in rap , he had two platinum albums , magazine covers , and was doin songs wit mya , destinys child , cam'ron, etc. but juvenile came out and crushed the buildings , it ended the momentum silkk was gonna have in 99
