JD is right. Jay wasn't relevant down here until that song came out. Then people really started paying attention when Big Pimpin' dropped. The video is really what did it.

JD needs to go somewhere with this. Back then, NY had the rap scene on lock. If you were big in NY, you were big across the country. Meth & Red didn't have a JD track and they were relevant in the South. So we gonna act Jay Z wasn't on the Ha (Remix) with Juvie

EDIT: On second though, after looking at the timeline, JD may be right. I forgot Money Aint A Thang was released as a single on JD's album a good 3 months before Vol. 2 dropped

I'm from NY...I been living down here for awhile

Most n*ggas I've talked to all say it was either Money Aint a Thing or Juveniles "Hah" remix....simply because Hov was the only non Cash Money n*gga on Juvi album.

And n*ggas claiming "Cam put JD on in New York" are insane

JD was paying Flex for spins for a long time. Thats how that whole Payola sh*t was blowing up. JD wallet put him on in NY

Jay-Z introduced me to JD. and im from the south.

JD probably the wackest successful CEO if that makes sense.

That NY rap bubble mentality is so funny to observe.

The ATL really DID NOT NEED NYC and essentially once it got on, never asked anyone for sh*t.

They did it themselves and NY stays acting like they were running sh*t over and above what they really were.
bone thugs had more of a presents on the radio down here in comparison to the groups he listed.

This is one of the most hilarious misconceptions about the 90s. I guess this is why n*ggas think groups like Boot Camp Click, Wu-Tang Clan, ATCQ, Gangstarr and Lost Boyz were all over the radio. Outside of New York, those groups a very little (if any) radio play. The rest of the country was bumping West Coast sh*t from 92-96, and southern sh*t from 97 until today. Jay, X, Pun and Cam and the Lox were pretty much the only NY rapper the rest the country really fu*ked with like that. The rest of us were on that Cash Money/No Limit sh*t mostly
Propped for this real talk...

This is the 100% truth but alot don't wanna admit it

In the South we knew who Jay-Z was, but we weren't jamming him like that. It took Volume 2 for everybody to start jamming him. After Big Pimpin came out, sh*t was a wrap.
As for the topic, this quote here ^^

1st time hearing Jay on San Antonio radio was with 'Hard Knock Life' or 'Can I Get A'. I don't remember 'Money Ain't A Thang' down here, might've been played but I can't be too sure.

Hell no Cam didn't boost Jermaine Dupri at all...Where are y'all getting that from

Jermaine Dupri GOT ON Cam'rons sh*t AFTER he fu*ked with Flex.

Y'all know Cam sh*t came out Mid to late '98

Jermaine Dupri did the INTRO to Flex 2nd album, it dropped a whole year earlier almost.

[pic - click to view]

And Biggie ain't put JD 'on in the south'. Jermaine Dupri had billboards around ATL before we even knew who he was up in NY

Flex and JD Wallet put him on in NY. I know I aint that damn old

Go listen to Flex 2nd album.

Go listen to Flex 2nd album.
listen up playboy it was big that put him on in the north is what I meant to say

That flex album was IRRELEVANT on the hip hop scene up here so that point was moot

A mixtape with a bunch of freestyles on it aint the same as an album cut...Flex wasnt even

the best DJ out around that time

DJ Clue Mixtapes >>>>

As for Hov....I always gave southern music a shot long before the radios up here were playing it

but after the Ha remix dropped that spring thats when you could feel the shift

On some these southern n*ggaz is making a push then nelly hit us in the head then it was over

n*gga are you insane? Do your homework son, everybody in NY was banging those Flex tapes.

You can't be serious? All 4 of Flex albums went gold. Clue name got hot cause he got a platinum plaque, but Flex dropped 4 Gold albums back to back.....

THAT Flex mixtape went gold in less than 2 months

That Flextape went Gold in Spring of 97, DJ Clue first album ain't even hit Shelves until Christmas '98

You dead in the water son, what you talkin bout

This is completely off topic. But Flex 3rd album had some of my fave freestyles of all time...I remember being in Queens and Prodigy told Flex he ain't want rappers going over certain beats(Vol. 3 featured a few "vs. Mobb Deep" tracks)

Prodigy told Flex DMX wouldn't do sh*t with it. DMX premiered this verse in Queens at a party and n*ggas thought he and Prodigy was gone have beef

Me personally, JD opened the door a bit for Hov to get put on the South but to be real, even though if memory serves me correct Hov was on Silk the Shocker's Made Man album before that but real talk though, no one started really fooling with Hov until the "Ha" remix with Juvie and then when Hov did "Big Pimpin" with UGK, like someone else said-it was a wrap after that.
