depends on what you mean....most money for the artist? or most money for the company....either way i think hip hop is profitable but country music artist always sell massive amounts of records and rock and roll haven't had a hey day since the days of guns n roses in the 80s.....pop and modern rock and roll are more iffy....it's recyclable music

there's a reason why the top 10 richest musicians, hip hop artist account for almost half the list...we can make money in a drought...pop stars have a bad record and they get dropped from the label....lil wayne makes a trash album and still has a tour which grosses 75 million....jayz so big now he signs pop artist like rihanna, shakira and kylie minogue

Im talking about the whole genre in general and how much profit each one makes. I would have to think hiphop just maybe at the bottom of the list sadly. We probably are the only genre that gives our music away free(mixtapes)

Pop is mainstream commercial music with no sense of purpose other than profit and that sh*t runs the world. The other genres has standards, but once an act breaks the standards for money it turns into pop act.

Well maybe this is the reason hiphop has been watered down so much. And the whole hipster movement is really pop music but gets labeled as hiphop. Execs have been forcing artist to switch up their sound a bit the last few years.Guess its to make more money. Notice how nearly all the top hiphop acts sing on their choruses now. Whether it be auto tune or just hummin a melody.
