The difference is Red!ck initiates his offense for himself, which is substantially more difficult than Novaks role which is literally standing in the corner and waiting. Playing JJ on ball with let you play Melo off ball or you can even have Red!ck play with the 2nd unit. Even if you have a Redd!ck in a lax role, he's a capable off ball player. I don't think he's one of the few players that shoot better off the dribble so his efficiency would increase.
There is absolutely no question in my mind that Red!ck is an infinitely better option than Novak -- he can't do sh*t outside of catch and shoot 3's while Red!ck has an extremely well rounded game for a combo guard
