Google Is Not Playing Around - Plans To Launch An LG Nexus 5 In May With Android 5.0

Google Nexus 5 Tipped For May 2013 With Android 5.0 KLP & 1080p Screen

Google will be holding their I/O event in May of this year and they are thought to be launching the next generation of the Nexus device here. This has been called the Nexus 5. At the moment there are no details or specs about the handset, but it is thought that Google are sticking with LG for the new Nexus device.

If rumours prove true then the Nexus 5 will be the second Nexus device to come from the partnership of Google and LG.

The HTC Nexus One was the first Nexus device released in 2010. Samsung then took over when they revealed the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus in 2010 and 2011.

The LG Nexus 4 was one of the most popular versions in the Nexus family and this is the reason why Google is sticking with them for the 5th Nexus. It is also thought that the Nexus 5 will have a similar price tag to the LG Nexus 4.

When the LG Nexus 4 became available in the Google Play Store it soon sold out thanks to it being a popular handset. Stock problems ensued and even now the handset is hard to get.

Sources have said LG are making the Nexus 5 prototype and that it will have the base of the LG Optimus Pro. This is thought to be making its way out at the MWC this year.

Of course the Google Nexus 5 will launch with the latest Android version, which could be Key Lime Pie. It is thought that this will appear in May.

Key Lime Pie has been kept secret and no features have been leaked so far.

The specs of the Nexus 5 are based on speculation at the moment, however it is based on the LG Optimus Pro and so we can guess as to what may be included in the Nexus 5.

It is thought that the Nexus 5 could be released with a display that is True HD IPS + LCD, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920p, it might be 5 inches and it could have 441ppi.

The device may come without a button on the front panel, as was seen with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus just a few years ago. Software buttons made up for the lack of this.

Many of the big players in the chip marker were at CES 2013 and they bragged off their chips. One of these was the Samsung Octo-core Exynos 5 Octa. Qualcomm showed the Snapdragon 800 along with the Snapdragon 600, while Nvidia revealed the Tegra 4.

The Exynos 5 Octa Soc will not be used here as Samsung don’t outsource the Exynos, it is also not likely that the Nvidia Tegra 4 or the Snapdragon 800 will be used in the Nexus 5. Qualcomm did say that the first of the handsets to use this would be revealed during the summer, while the Nexus 5 is said to be coming out in May.

LTE will be a big selling point and the Nvidia Tegra 4 along with the 72 core GPU will not be in the Nexus 5. While the Nvidia chip doesn’t have LTE and surely the Nexus 5 will have to come with LTE.

It could be viable to see the Snapdragon 600 in the Nexus 5, however sources have been pointing to the Key Lime Pie Android device being based on the Snapdragon S4 Pro, which will be overclocked. Therefore we would be looking at the 1.7GHz quad core that was made on Krait architecture, matched with an Andreno 320 GPU.

Other specs may not be as impressive as it is thought that the Nexus 5 could have 2GB of RAM, support NFC and LTE, come with Wi-Fi, have Bluetooth and microUSB support and have an audio jack of 3.5mm.

More than likely we will see a 13 megapixel camera, which would have LED flash, autofocus, HD recording for video and it would have the Street View Photo Sphere mode.

The Nexus 5 will have to come with a larger case which would make way for a larger battery to power the 5 inch screen. This is thought to be a 3000mAh battery and it should offer a full days use from a single battery charge.

The LG Nexus 4 was released with 8GB or 16GB or storage. Some people said that 8GB was nowhere near enough. With this in mind Google may launch the device with 16GB or 32GB.

The price tag has been one of the main draws of the LG Nexus 4 and there is no reason why Google will have to alter this. Therefore the Nexus 5 may come in at $300 for the 16GB and $350 for the 32GB version.

Of course Nexus devices are always ahead for updates and the Nexus 5 should get the latest Android updates fast. If you like pure Android then you may wish to give the Nexus 5 some thought.

The Nexus 5 could be launched in May at the Google I/O and at the same time the next Android version may be revealed too, this is said to be Key Lime Pie. For now you will just have to wait a while longer to see what happens, and if the Nexus 5 will be from LG.

Blame that on Samsung not supporting older devices and carriers blocking updates so they can sale newer models.

Nexus 5 in May? Anyone that just bought a Nexus 4 lost.

Edit: Just looked at the specs. If they're true, all the other high-end phones released around this time will sh*t on it.

I Love my Nexus 4, anyone that got a GS3 lost. Note 2 sh*ts ALL OVER that thing
Key Lime Pie Im ready, guess who's phone getting that first?

If this has the NEW Snap Dragon 800 then hell yeah i'd switch, but they said they gonna keep the same Nexus 4 chip but overclocked so its not worth the hassle.
I posted about the new Snapdragons and they are fu*kin monster, 1st phone to have that is getting my money.

for a nexus it makes sense in order for it to be cheap unlocked. I think google is just gonna use the Motorola phones to be high end stock like devices and nexus devices to be their cheap unlocked ones

No device will have a Snapdragon 800 until the end of the year.

Looks like the Galaxy S will be the best phone released two years straight.

That Exynos Octa 5 is a beast.

It doesn't make sense when the 4 was high-end. Maybe they are focusing on Motorola being their high-end phones.

Why they releasing this so fast after the Nexus 4?

Yeah I feel the same way. I'd rather have all my media on a sd card than on the phone itself. The excuse they use for not putting it on the phone is straight bullsh*t too.

Everybody likes the idea of having an SD card, but in reality it’s just confusing for users.

If you’re saving photos, videos or music, where does it go? Is it on your phone? Or on your card? Should there be a setting? Prompt everytime? What happens to the experience when you swap out the card? It’s just too complicated.

We take a different approach. Your Nexus has a fixed amount of space and your apps just seamlessly use it for you without you ever having to worry about files or volumes or any of that techy nonsense left over from the paleolithic era of computing.

With a Nexus you know exactly how much storage you get upfront and you can decide what’s the right size for you. That’s simple and good for users.

Its been rolling out for the overseas S2 the past few weeks. As for us, we gotta wait for our carriers to release it (if they even decide to). If I were you. I'd root or cop a phone with JB on it. I'm in the same position as you (got the original S2 on AT&T) so that's pretty much my only options too. I'm copping the S3 anyway so

Edit: I just read the JB update for the S2 started rolling out in Canada:nasmad:And sometime in March is the rumored release for U.S. users.
