This meme failed to mention minimum wage is determined by the cost of living. They are price floors and ceilings that make up the economy.

Cost of living can't be that much higher, they have access to everything for sale on the internet which is the same price no matter where you live.
doesn't work like that...I have family in Brazil and they get taxed to all hell when you buy things outside Brazil and have it shipped or brought in...

I visited last year and I had maaaaaaaaaaaaad items because everyone wanted me to bring sh*t for them...since I'm an American I can bring sh*t and avoid the ridiculous govt taxes...

that and gas was expensive as fu*k...they got me at first because I forgot about the conversion rate of USD and R, but they also got me at first on the not using gallons thing too...

I love boxden.

That means if you working in Australia at McDucks making $16 an hour it's going to take you 24.3 hours of work to have enough money to buy a PS3.

If you working in America at McDucks making $8 an hour it's going to take you 40.6 hours of work to have enough money to buy a PS3.

Point proven. Case Closed.

You're acting as if the cost of living is the same. If you're making $16 / hr and you live in Sydney, you're poor. Once you get done paying expenses, you still take home the equivalent of an American wage. If Australia had America's pay scale, it would look like a favela in Brazil.

Unless you're magically commuting between Australia and America everyday, this is pointless. You're absolutely right about the conversion rates but unless you work there and live here, who cares about the conversion rate?

What's the point of making $16 an hour if you can't spend it/enjoy it and you're barely getting by?

In an ideal situation, of course you'd save up all that money and just move back to America but that's impossible.

You make more, you spend more. There isn't much of an advantage. As far as I know, all minimum wage is relative to the countries cost of living. No one is living the good life on minimum wage ANYWHERE.

Thank you. Someone finally understands. I been reading these idiotic posts like WTF!!! Conversion rates don't matter. You getting paid an Australian wage, and you live in Australia, so cost of living is everything. I could care less how the American dollar is valued compared to some other money, cause I live and spend mine here. SO MANY IDIOTS IN THIS THREAD!!!

I dont know about $16/hr for McDonald's workers, but minimum wage should definitely be upped yearly. The MINIMUM you should be able to make on the books is like $11/hr. I dont know how hard working people survive on $250/week after taxes for 40 hour weeks busting their a.ss on their feet all day getting like $8 an hour. I understand that low skill jobs should be low paying, but throwing a few extra dollars towards wages would go a long way to helping the economy long term.

false. i dont think a person can live in the usa, well the majority of us cities on minimum wage. isnt min wage in us like 7.50?

rent is gotta be at least 500 for the most basic and run down of places
most likely u gonna have to get food stamps
if u have health insurance from ur job then u basically prolly dont have any change in between pay periods.
