No scareface is classic do to the story. a broke immigrant builds himself up to be a kingpin. its the classic ashy to classy story that people love.. movie was long and drawn out but to a street cat this was inspiration and al pacino was in it.. It showed how you can't trust nobody and how money will get you any and everything accept a very secure mansion.

Dredd was not good though. It's easier to be better than the original but that's not saying much.

dredd was ok , but it could have been a BBC show if you just took some of the unneeded drug FX out.

sh*t , was not cinematic at all.

Dredd was boring... it looked budget too. couldnt finish

Scott Pilgrim is classic... It will be a film of our generation. Its to many pop culture and video game references in there not to be

f!ght club is dope, i didnt know it was a flop tho....

I really wanna like Idiocracy, but it was trash... the humor was not there. Had alot of potential but horrible execution.

Dredd, Idiocracy, Seeking A Friend, Grindhouse, Pilgrim etc. are not great movies, most of them are not even good movies.

Obviously Citizen Kane is a great example of a classic that failed at first impression, Vertigo is Hitchcock's best movie and top 10 easily, another that was slept on.

Yet Gone With The Wind made almost 200 mill, wealthy people made a large portion of the movie goers, and were also better off when the depression hit.
that explains one movie, not the entirety of cinema at the time. i'm not saying you're wrong, but wealthy people weren't going to see EVERY movie and one example doesn't necessarily make my point disappear.

I think the new "In" thing to do is hate Scarface.. While I don't think its a great movie, it isn't horrible either.. I've saw far worse.. It's not classic if you compare it to other great movies, but it is classic due to its impact on Hip-Hop culture.. (to its detriment in some cases)
i think the 'in' thing was to call it a classic movie and wildly important to black/hip-hop culture... i remember many people saying that sh*t. i was like...

people are finally being honest about it in 2013 IMO.

"4.The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Budget: $2.8 million
Domestic Box Office Gross: $3 million

NOW it's considered one of the greatest movies of all time, and NOW it's a cultural touchstone for generations, but back when The Wizard of Oz was first released, it barely broke even. MGM considered it a massive failure."

An increase of narcotics in the US had to do with this..

It's on most people's (including mine) best of all time list but it didn't even break even at the box office. That's pretty wild.
whats pretty wild is that it had a 63 mil budget

"f!ght Club" suffered at the Box Office because of the Columbine affect... And critics taking a moral stand against the film in relation to that event happening.

It was blasted upon release. The climate was extremely Politically Correct.

Some of the harsher reviews are Legendary for their viciousness. I think Fincher even has some of the most brutal critiques framed and on the wall in his office as a badge of honor.

And "Citizen Kane" Flopped because William Randolph Hearst(who the film was based on) owned the most powerful News Empire in America(think Rupurt Murdoch now) and he buried it. It wasn't even allowed to be mentioned in his Newspapers.

Basically he used every bit of Power he had(which was quite alot) to make sure the film was never seen and discredited.
