Brandon Jennings fires agent agent, doing his "homework on big market teams"

Bucks' Jennings drops agent, will sign with Jeff Schwartz
By Ken Berger | NBA Insider
February 4, 2013 3:20 pm ET

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings is dropping agent Bill Duffy, and two people familiar with the situation told CBSSports.com on Monday that the soon-to-be restricted free agent will sign with New York-based Jeff Schwartz.

Duffy confirmed he and Jennings have parted ways in a statement to the Sports Business Journal. The two people with knowledge of Jennings' plans said the point guard will sign with Schwartz once the 10-day waiting period for switching agents has elapsed.

Jennings will be one of the top restricted free agents on the market this summer, and his hiring of Schwartz could be ominous for the Bucks. After failing to receive a multi-year extension by the Oct. 31, 2012, deadline the 2009 first-round pick said, "I'm doing my homework on big-market teams."

Schwartz, who also represents Nets point guard Deron Williams, Clippers star Blake Griffin, Celtics star Paul Pierce and other top NBA players at Excel Sports Management, is a noted proponent of the added endorsement income and opportunities that the NBA's largest cities can provide.

In the statement to Sports Business Journal, Duffy said, "I can honestly say we put our heart and soul into helping Brandon on every level and put his life in a positive direction. He has the prerogative to surround himself with whom he chooses and we fully respect that. We wish him nothing but the best."

Dallas, Houston and Detroit are the only decent-sized markets with cap space and a possible starting job for him. and I doubt he'd make a huge amount of endorsement money in those places. so i'm not sure where he thinks he's going image

a S&T to the raptors might be a good look for him though. big city, and he's friends with derozan image

That could be a good move, but it could also go against Jennings... I don't think he is that good to pretend to start on a big market team.

Exactly why I hate the fu*kin NBA. It's hard to be a fan of a small market team, it's hopeless you develop a player only to see him leave for a bigger city. Heat fan since we had odom in 03, could never root for the hornets I knew as soon as cp3 got his first all star appearance he was gone.

small market teams have to make sure they draft right or everybody is leaving.

OKC got lucky they got a star that wanted to play in that city , same with the spurs who don't count IMO it's Texas. They have 3 teams.

Every city ain't lucky like that. Teams shouldn't have to draft perfectly the NBA should be fair to where everyone can compete no matter where they are. In fact big market teams should have 5 less mill in cap room to even things out.

Agree with Dee504. I care less and less about the NBA lately because Milwaukee just doesn't have a chance to win the hearts of these superstars. Hell I felt lucky to see my favorite players Michael Redd and Ray Allen play as long as they did. Andrew Bogut probably would have stayed if we didn't trade him because of the injury bug, MAYBE. I don't know.

Just hard to get attached to a team that's little more than a revolving door for some of these players. And don't expect this to die down anytime soon. NBA is the ultimate diva's sport, don't expect anyone who blossoms into a superstar to have any loyalty to your team if you're a small market team. I'm a true fan so it's always Bucks and fu*k anyone else, but the sh*t hurts.
