‘Dexter‘s seventh season may have left us on a bloody and shocking twist, but that doesn’t mean Showtime intends to make us wait all the way until the season 8 premiere this fall for new blood. In what could likely be the serial k!ller series’ final year, we’ve just learned of two new recurring characters to the eighth season of ‘Dexter,’ either of whom sound like they might be the ones to finally catch Dexter, or even Deb. Find out the new blood on ‘Dexter’ season 8 inside!

As ‘Dexter’s likely final year looms after jaw-dropping season 7 finale “Surprise, Motherf—er,” fans are left with one inevitable question: will Dexter be caught by the series finale? The question has haunted viewers since the very first season, but two new casting scoops from TVLine certainly seem to point in the law enforcement direction. Or will Deb perhaps be the one to pay for her brother’s crimes, now that she’s committed a few of her own?

According to the report, ‘Dexter’ season 8 has begun casting two recurring roles: first up is that of Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a “formidable and whip smart” neuro-psychiatrist in her late 50s who a.ssists profiling criminals for law enforcement, while second is that of former police officer Jacob Elroy. In his 40s, handsome and straightforward, Elroy owns his own private eye business, and might just be tasked with catching LaGuerta’s true k!ller, a.ssuming Dexter and Deb didn’t cover it up as well as they’d hoped.

Well, what say you? Do you think either of the two new characters will be the one to catch ‘Dexter’ as the show heads into its eighth and likely final season? How will Deb cope with her actions against LaGuerta? Give us your theories and casting suggestions in the comments!

Dexter Morgan may have met his match.

Actor Sean Patrick Flanery will have a "major recurring role" in the upcoming eighth season of Showtime's Dexter, Deadline reports. The Boondock Saints star will play an ex-cop who owns a private investigation business in Miami.

It's unclear what role Flanery's character, Jacob Elroy, will have in relation to Dexter (Michael C. Hall) or how he might impact the show's possibly final season. (Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins said during a Television Critics a.ssociation panel earlier this month that there is "a clear end game in place," though he failed to confirm that Season 8 will be the show's last.

In other casting news, British actress Charlotte Rampling has also landed a recurring role, according to Entertainment Weekly. She'll play a neuro-psychiatrist who specializes in criminal profiling and studying young psychopaths.

Dexter returns Sunday, June 30 at 9/8c.

The "Vegas" actress plays Dexter's nanny and Angel's little sister on the Showtime serial k!ller drama.

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is apparently going to need a full-time nanny when season eight of Showtime's Dexter returns.

Actress Aimee Garcia, who has been recurring as graduate student Jamie, has been promoted to series regular, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Garcia has been recurring on the Showtime serial k!ller drama, where she cares for Harrison while his father juggles his Dark Passenger and job as a blood-splatter analyst at Miami Metro. She's the sister to Dexter's colleague, Angel (David Zayas).

In the season seven finale, Angel was on the brink of retiring from his detective position in favor of a simpler life running a restaurant. With the death of his recent ex-wife Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Velez), it's unclear just how that will impact his law enforcement career (or emotional balance for the sensitive cop).

In addition to her role on Dexter, Garcia has been recurring on CBS' freshman drama Vegas, opposite Michael Chiklis and Dennis Quaid. She'll next be seen in the MGM RoboCop update starring Gary Oldman.

Repped by Paradigm and Thruline Entertainment, Garcia joins a season eight cast that includes new recurring guest stars Charlotte Rampling and Sean Patrick Flanery, who play a psychiatrist who works with young psychopaths (gulp, Harrison?) and a PI, respectively. Production begins in the next few weeks in Los Angeles.

Dexter's eighth and potentially final season will shift to a spring run and premiere at 9 p.m. on June 29 on Showtime.

Serial k!llers are notorious for keeping secrets well hidden, but we’ve managed to get a few details about Nick Gomez‘s upcoming guest spot on Dexter.
Gomez will play hit man Javier Guzman on the Showtime drama, TVLine has learned.

The character — who goes by the nickname El Sapo — will find himself frustrated when Debra gets in between him and his target, which probably isn’t great news for Dexter’s sis. (But after last season’s finale, maybe El Sapo should stay outta her way.)
Walking Dead fans will recognize Gomez as the alpha-male convict Rick cleaved through the skull. The actor’s TV credits also include Treme, Wendy and Dawson’s Creek.

Already knew this but...

After months of contradictions regarding the future of Showtime’s hit series, CBS Corp. president Les Moonves confirmed this week that Dexter will come to an end after season 8. But even with news coming from the top, is there still a chance that everyone’s favorite Dark Passenger could return for season 9?

While speaking at the Access Media, Internet & Telecom Conference in Palm Beach, CBS Corp.’s longtime boss referred to this year’s June premiere of Dexter as the “last season.” Although this news goes against what Showtime president David Nevin has been saying, it does fall in line with what producers of the show have been saying for over a year.

In December 2011, Nevin kicked-off the final season confusion, saying that the show’s writers and producers were already working on a way to bring Dexter to an end in season 8. As we now know, Nevin’s initial comments were a result of an agreement he made with producers to push the final season of Dexter to season 8 instead of season 7, which was the original plan. One month later, Nevin began trumpeting the possibility of a Dexter season 9. It wasn’t until June 2012 that Dexter producers finally weighed in on what’s really happening.

Five months after Nevin’s comments, longtime Dexter executive producer Sara Colleton revealed the fact that, after agreeing with Showtime to delay the final season by a year, the show would absolutely end in season 8:

From the very beginning, when I first started developing the pilot, I always knew it would be a seven-year arc for this series. I feel easily that we can be an eight-year show, but I never want it to get old and stale. I want us to go out on a high and everybody on the show is determined to keep the level of it up to the very end. It’s always wise to know when it’s time to leave the stage before you’re asked to leave the stage.

After Colleton made her comments, what followed was a series of back-and-forth, contradictory statements from Nevin and Colleton about the future of Dexter, essentially creating a confusing non-battle between the people who make the show and Showtime, the company that pays for the show. Considering Dexter was one of Showtime’s first to receive such high acclaim, it soon became obvious that the cable network didn’t want to let go of their golden goose, even if producers (and fans) knew that it was time to exit.

So what about the future of Dexter? Is season 9 still a possibility?

Even though word came down from the head of CBS Corp., which owns Showtime, there’s still a slim chance that television’s trend of uncommon “sweetheart” deals (Charlie Sheen & FX; Robert Kirkman & FIC) could lead to Dexter returning for one more season. Although Dexter season 9 is highly unlikely, whatever events are likely to happen in the upcoming (now final) season will certainly draw fans – old and new – to the series, raising ratings. So with the possibility of being able to show the “aftermath” of whatever might happen in season 8, you can’t completely count out Showtime from continuing a good thing. After all, Nevin spoke about Dexter season 9 just two months ago.

That being said, with Showtime set to roll out two new series, Ray Donovan and Masters of s3x, in the coming months (among other projects), it’s likely that Nevin and others will begin to focus on their other (hopefully) hit series and allow Dexter to exit as planned. But if there’s anything that seven seasons of Dexter has taught us, it’s that you can never guess what the Dark Passenger will do – or be “forced” to do – next.
