Quentin Tarantino Disappointed By Leonardo Dicaprio's Oscar Snub

Director Quentin Tarantino is upset his Django Unchained star Leonardo DiCaprio missed out on a nomination for the 2013 Academy Awards.

The filmmaker's acclaimed Western is up for trophies in five categories, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, but Tarantino admits he was surprised the Titanic star was overlooked for a top acting nod.

He tells Britain's Daily Express newspaper, "It's pretty cool, I'm still taking it in. We spent a lot of money on the movie so we hoped it would do well.

"It was a pretty good week: five BAFTA (Film Awards) nominations... four Oscar noms (sic)... it was lovely. I'm sorry Leo didn't get nominated."

Although Tarantino was snubbed in the Best Director category, he was more surprised fellow filmmaker Ben Affleck wasn't recognized for his acclaimed thriller Argo.

He adds, "I feel sorry for Ben Affleck. He really deserved it and I think everybody thought he was going to get it so I'm disappointed for him."

Django Unchained also picked up nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Christoph Waltz), as well as Cinematography and Sound Editing mentions.

Argo was dope saw it last night. I'm not at all surprised that Leo didn't get the nod on this and I'm even less surprised that Tarantino is vocal about it. That would have got them a second rush to the theaters.

QT is right, both Ben Affleck and Decaprio shoulda been nominated. Once Upon A Time In Anatolia also got snubbed for best foreign flick.

I might be in the minority but oh well, don't think Leo k!lled that role anyway, it was okay, he's done a lot better. Performance didn't move me.

How long an actor has been in a movie is completely irrelevant.

How was he just "Leo" ? When has Leo played a villain?

Pretty much. Like I said before, there was some woman who won for being on the screen for 10-15 mins total I thought. And Leo couldn't even get a nod

Jack Palance won Best Supporting Actor for City Slickers. He was in the movie for about 3 minutes!

honestly while the movie was the best one that I've seen all year(have a huge backlog), nobody's performance made me think Oscar.

Christopher Waltz had the best acting in the movie. He straight up k!lled it!!! I'd give Leo second best.... but now that I think about it, he did an amazing job breaking from his normal character roles.

The fact that Leo didn't break character the whole time his hand was bleeding should have been enough to earn him a nomination.

And the dude that said Leo just played himself is a moron. Since when is DiCaprio a Southern plantation owner? He did so many great subtle things with the character, like not understanding a French word despite considering himself a Monsieur. He wasn't better than DeNiro in Silver Linings or Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln, but he deserved the acknowledgment for Django.

Also, I think Sam Jackson got snubbed, too. His character was so out of type, and nothing like the angry, yelling man that his critics make him out to be. He was cold, calculating, and put an entirely different perspective on the concept of the Uncle Tom/House n*gga. He was more cruel to the slaves he lived with than Calvin.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I thought Leo did and absolutely fantastic job in Django and I think he should have been nominated...

Anthony Hopkins was only on screen for like 16 minutes in Silence of the Lambs, and he won the Oscar for Best Actor.
